I was always the silent and loner type and I never hurt anybody or desired too, in fact I can't even get myself to kill a fly. Just because a few psycho kids who are quiet loners go nuts doesn't make all of them nuts. Now everybody in my college will think I'm a psycho thanks to this crazy Korean kid.

The media does a good job of overanalyzing most everything they report on.

I find it hard to believe that you are the only quiet one in your college. I am most certain that there are others who are just as quiet, hopefully you do not truly believe that everyone will think you are a psycho simply because you choose to remain quiet, if you do believe that then perhaps you should speak to one of your counselors.

I do not believe that the the media is saying only the quiet ones, they are going by statistics. They tend to be the outside group, perhaps ones who have been ridiculed by others, the deeply withdrawn and those who previously shown a tendency with other acts that were perhaps taken to lightly, the student who did these had previously set a fire in another building, if that were the case, then why was he still there. You have to look at all the facts before drawing a conclusion

Yeah, I am a quiet loner type too. It might be that the quiet people are the ones that can be murmuring to themselves, or that they are the ones that are picked on. Most school shooters are dead before they say why they did it. I myself think that being the popular person would be a little bit easier to snap, from all the pressure. Another thing is the people who are good at describing pain, or violence ar those that are thought to be killers. Ever since I was three, my dad said I was better at describing pain than most of the adults he knew. That makes me one of the most recognized people that are dragged down to the counselors office.

It's plain ole sensationalism. Hear this though...not all of us think that the quiet kids are psycho or anything of the like. I was sorta in between. Quiet unless I really either felt comfortable with someone or knew them.

I think anyone could turn out the way that kid did. What I'm hearing as that he "cried out" but no one came to his aid. Not sure how true that is. Either way, he might've been able to be helped, maybe not.

I do unfortunately see that the aftermath doesn't just stop at the victims, their families and the students and faculty at VT. It has obviously affected you greatly as well, as I imagine you live nowhere near where this happens. I just hope that no one will view you this way...

Keep your chin up...let them think what they want to. When they realize that you aren't like that, they will feel foolish.

For 10 Myths on School Shootings ...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15111438/

No, intelligent people realize that there is no correct "profile."

From MSN ...

In fact, there is no profile. “There is no accurate or useful ‘profile’ of students who engaged in targeted school violence,” the researchers found.

The stereotypes of teens in Goth makeup or other types of dress are not useful in preventing attacks. Just as in other areas of security -- workplace violence, airplane hijacking, even presidential assassination -- too many innocent students will fit any profile you can come up with, and too many attackers will not.

“The demographic, personality, school history, and social characteristics of the attackers varied substantially,” the report said. Attackers were of all races and family situations, with academic achievement ranging from failing to excellent.

Most, but not all, have been male, though that fact alone doesn't help an adult rule in or out someone as dangerous.

In many cases, students were considered in the mainstream of the student population and were active in sports, school clubs or other activities.

Only one-quarter of the students hung out with a group of students considered to be part of a “fringe group.”

Yeah, the media has been a circus since yesterday. Hopefully the truth of what happened, will come out, but I don't think that it has anything to do to being a "quiet student"

Don't know why, but I hate stereotyping, I was never a quiet one, but I don't think that all quiet ones are more likely to do this kind of things! Sorry about that, but I hope no one discriminates you because of this incident!
