Rearrange the equation to make x the subject?

How would I rearrange this to make it: x = ???

The a-x is supposed to be underneath the x on the right hand-side.

multiply across by (a-x),

y(a-x) = x

multiply out,

ay - xy = x

add xy to both sides,

ay = x + xy

factorise,

ay = x(1+y)

and finally divide both sides by (1+y):

x = ay/(1+y)
