(a-x)

The a-x is supposed to be underneath the x on the right hand-side.

First, before anyone picks up on the grammar mistake above concerning the 'to' when it should be 'too' I am sorry.
The underlines mean dividing X.
A line always means divide... I am in year 9 and I know that, c'mon mate....

y = x/(a-x) <---- the proper way to write this!

multiply across by (a-x),

y(a-x) = x

multiply out,

ay - xy = x

add xy to both sides,

ay = x + xy

factorise,

ay = x(1+y)

and finally divide both sides by (1+y):

x = ay/(1+y)

continuously endure in options even if you do on one fringe of an equation you would possibly want to do to the different area. y = (x/a-x) Multiply each and each area by (a-x) y(a-x) = x strengthen ay - xy = x Rearrange x + xy = ay Factorise x(a million + y) = ay Divide each and each area by (a million + y) x = {ay/(a million + y)}

Try this:

y = x/(a - x)

y(a - x) = x
ay - xy = x
ay = x + xy
= x(1 + y)
x = ay/(1 + y)

hope this helps and if you like it vote for it!!

y(a-x) = x multiply out
ya -yx =x
ya = x + yx factorise
ya = x(1+y)
ya/1+y = x

y(a - x) = x
ya - yx = x
ya = x + yx
ya = (1 + y).x
x = ya / (1 + y)

y=x/a-x
Multiply y by (a-x)
y(a-x)=x
ya-yx=x
ya=x+yx
ya=x(1+y)
Divide, hence answer is:
x=ya/1+y
