This may seem like a silly question but I'm not sure. My period isn't due till April 26th but I took a test anyway. I took it this afternoon and I know I should wait for the morning. It went through the two windows and showed a line in the control window, then it made a hortizontal line in the preg window. There wasn't an apparant vertical line, it was just a tiny little line that didn't even go all the way up or down. Could I be or is it neg?

Sounds like the test failed, it happens some times, but for a better result wait until the 3rd of may a week after you missed your period and take the test again. Nowadays its not necessary to do it in the morning there are ones that you cant take at anytime of the day too.

I took a pregnancy test earlier than advised as well. Mine showed a very, very faint vertical line indicating a positive result. Just as you, I was not sure what this meant. Went to the doctor to find out that I was in fact pregnant. Took another test, also earlier than reccommended, and had the same thing happen that time as well. So even though it was early it was still accurate. Obviously the manufacturer of the test will have you wait the longest length of time in order to have the least amount of questionable results but it doesn't mean they are completely inaccurate if taken sooner.
The tests actually test for a hormone found during preganancy - HCG. Therefore, if the test indicates a positive read for this horomone (light or not) chances are great that you ARE pregnant. Home pregnancy tests rarely give you false positives because of this. If there is an inaccuracy it is mostly dure to taking the test too early and the hormone not reaching levels high enough to register yet.
I would suggest you take another and if you see the slightest indicator that it is positive you can safely assume you are unless the doctor tells you otherwise.

IF anything at all showed up in the pregnancy window and it was supposed to be blank for a negative, its very possible its a positive but the HCG hormones are still so low that it's not showing clearly. If you were SUPPOSED to have a horizontal line for negative and got only a faint horizontal line, its still negative.

I used the EPT test, and the control window was fine (a horizontal line) and then for the pregnancy window it was supposed to be a horizontal line or a + sign, and all i got was a VERTICAL line, really faint--- but it was still a positive. You wont get a vertical line AT ALL if its totally negative.

So faint results still mean positive.......

It's too soon to take a pregnancy test. If you are due April 26th it is likely that you may have just ovulated and there would be no time for implantation to have occurred. The test was negative. If you have questions about how long it takes, etc. Watch this video:

I think maybe you should test again in the morning. It could be that the test was no good. It kinda sounds like a fluke to me. I took a test a week before my period was due, and it was very positive. I actually took it before I went to bed a week before. So, for the most part, they're pretty accurate. Also, I got a cheap, no name brand test, and it worked perfectly.

Try taking the Clear Blue Easy digital pregnancy test. The results are actually shown as the words "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant" so you don't have to worry about the lines.

According to their website: Clearblue Easy can be used as early at 4 days before you expect your period. That's 5 days sooner than waiting until you miss your period to test. The amount of pregnancy hormone increases rapidly in early pregnancy. In clinical testing with early pregnancy samples, Clearblue Easy gave the following results. 51% of pregnant women get results 5 days sooner. 82% get results 4 days sooner. 90% get results 3 days sooner, 95% get results 2 days sooner.

2 lines usually mean that you are pregnant even if the second line is really light in color. If you are not sure you should take another test. The best pregnancy test i believe is called the EPT test. It comes in a purple and white box. Good luck!

Your period isnt due for over a week. You can't take those as accurate results unless you missed your period last time? I'd wait some time before you test again, Like wait till you skip your period!
