I understand the genesis of your gun culture - wild west etcetera etcetera, but does this remain relevent in today's society? If I've got the beginnings wrong apologies but please don't educate me, just tell me why you think you still need to have guns.

Aslate - so generally Americans don't have guns then, is that what you're saying! No guns on campus I believe is the rule isn't it. It was an American who explained on this site why guns became the American culture, it has nothing to do with 'watching cowboy films' darlin' it's about real history.

What people don't understand is why we can't do something about this violence. Everything, everything in the U.S.A. is based on money. Gun lobbys (people that give money to people running for government jobs, Congress) have tons and tons of $$$$. They will continue to make sure no one can do anything about controlling any gun laws.
We may not need them but with such groups that support mostly Republican candidates for office we will have them in huge amounts, it doesn't matter how many people die.

There are too many to record. precise of MY record, however, could be: a million) An older Marlin 336 or Winchester sort ninety 4 .30-30- alongside with the .30-06, this gun has taken extra deer than the different because of the fact that its inception. 2) Fox section-by skill of-section 12 gauge (the A. H. Fox corporation replaced into offered by skill of Savage in 1929)- this replaced into the shotgun my grandfather owned for many of his existence. It took many deer, squirrel, turkey, and the rest he hunted. 3) A lever-action .22 consisting of a Marlin, Mossberg, or Henry. that's quite lots the terrific gun to learn on, till you have #4 on my record. 4) A Remington sort 40-one Targetmaster. A single-shot, bolt-action .22 which will cope with short, long, and long Rifle. that's going to force tacks, and in my opinion that's the terrific gun that exists for coaching a neophyte the thank you to shoot. I very own one that replaced into handed right down to me from my grandfather, and that gun holds a super form of historical past for me. 5) A Smith & Wesson revolver. high quality and sort are not all that significant, yet a minimum of one S&W ought to bypass with the aid of your palms on your lifetime once you're interested in classic weapons made interior america of a.

I need a gun to protect myself from people just like that gunman at VA Tech.
Will I ever have to use one? I hope I never have to pull the trigger (other than at the gun range, for target practice).
Will I brandish it as a deterrent? Yes -- that works quite well, actually.
There is another reason to own a firearm. I actually live in the "wild west". There are still vast wilderness areas, in which I enjoy backpacking and camping. There are real wild animals (bears, cougars, wolves, coyotes, etc,) in these areas and a gun offers protection from attack.

Too bad. It is in the constitution. The day they get rid of the 2nd amendment, the first amendment will follow.
As far as cowboy/wild west culture; Argentina, Mexico, Australia and Canada also has it. Nice to see that you only single out America.
Lastly, foriegners are NOT allowed to own guns in America. In other words, he obtained it illegally. More people die from drunk drivers so why don't we ban cars or alcohol?

Self defense, sport shooting, hunting (which I suppose could also be considered sport shooting), self defense or home defense if it comes to that. Besides, it's a constitutionally protected right, and not many people are willing to give that up, if only for that reason.
edit: if you outlaw guns entirely, then only outlaws would have guns; think about that.

I refuse to give up the right to protect myself. Plain and simple. I also have two LARGE German Shepard dogs who are with me in my home. The fact that I have a gun and the dogs have saved me from attack numerous times. So the answer is yes, I need to have my gun.

I dont own a gun and never will. I dont know if outlawing guns completely would do any good but create a blackmarket for it. I do however think that the most dangeous types (semi-automatics, etc...) should be banned and maybe these mass killings could be somewhat controlled.

I don't think that anyone should have guns. Sometimes I question if the police force should have guns.Half the time they don't know how, and when to use them. If NO ONE was allowed guns, NO ONE would need guns to protect themselves from stupid criminals who have guns, because they wouldn't have guns, either. Look at Cheney, he shot his so called friend in the face.

So you are saying the classic phrase "I't can't happen here"
YOu are saying a tyrant cannot take over this country.. THESE DAYS.. cause.. why.. we are somehow now enlightened.
YOu are an idiot. LIberals hate gw and call him a tyrant.. but they still want us to give up our guns. This is insane.
GUns spread throughout the citizens of a country is what will keep the US free.
we desperately need to keep guns
THe UN wants to ban them world wide.. can you guess WHY?
