Is there really a reason why there COULDN'T be peace in the world... even a whole world at peace?

Some will say that peace CANNOT exist without war. But does this make sense? It's like saying you can't not be shot with a gun unless you have guns around. Yes, without the gun the -concept- of getting shot probably wouldn't exist, but even then you only need the -concept- of the gun, not the actuality. Dualism doesn't work in this case.

Some will also say that it is against human nature. But is there really any part of nature that at least some people haven't overcome? People suppress their sex drives all the time, and channel primitive urges to kill things into other activities. If we cannot yet find people unwilling and unable to do such things, I don't see any reason to believe that we will NEVER be able to do so. One shouldn't fault ethics and psychology for being where medicine was a thousand years ago... as medicine has advanced, so too will these fields.

There will even be those who argue that war is a good thing and shouldn't be prevented. But I cannot think of a benefit that could not be gained in some other way. Arguably, we have has wars for most of recorded history, so maybe it's not a bad idea to try something else and see if that works out better.

Nor do I think chaos is the enemy of peace. It is the opposite of order. And order and peace are not necessarily the same thing... though I can see how one might think that they were. Consider, however, that some of the most orderly and structured societies have been ones geared almost solely for war.

There will always probably be some level of disorder... it's part of the nature of the universe that orderly things become disorderly. Interestingly enough even physics equations will tell you what needs to be done to combat this: expend energy. Your room naturally gets messy. If you want it clean again, you'll have to do some work.

The world is no different, really.

it would be nice , I am answering as an ex soldier, and I do not think that wherever you go in this great world there will ever be such a thing as peace, there is so much violence, drugs, that it makes it hard for anyone to even keep up with it, maybe if we did not put up with the **** that we do and if everyone started to realise that this is not what most people wish for their families, friends, and hangers on, because it is not fair on anyone. Tom keep chaos at bay, well there is one really good answer which cannot be published(called a bomb). Sorry, but thats life.

You are equating peace with law...Law is the opposite of Chaos. Strife is the opposite of Peace. Lao Tse (Lao Tzu) suggested that "The essence of life is struggle. (strife)" Thus the end of all life would end the strife that you have tired of.

Peace can only come with acceptance and tolerance of other peoples' differences. The reason peace cannot exist in the world's current state lies in our stubborn focus on our divisions, or differences if you will.

Chaos can bring change, and I think that is what you fear. Law and Chaos, in and of themselves, are neither good nor evil. Law is rigid and unchanging, but will occaisionally erode so that change may occur. It is not Chaos that you wish to hold at bay...it is the tumult and the terror of war and oppression.

The dual nature of the world suggests that there will never be absolute peace. There can exist a peace that is more widespread than it is today. Chaos will be kept at bay when we as a people no longer believe it is the right action to take in order to solve our differences.

Within Yin Yang you can't have 100% of one thing. There will always be the presence of the opposite. Chaos creates change, both good and bad, so, really, you wouldn't want to keep it backed off. What we can hope to achieve is enough peace to keep life worthwhile and give the oppressed something to reach for.

In practice its impossible because there will always be someone who has nothing to do then create chaos and destruction. In theory it is possible, the only place in human history where there is true peace is "heaven, paradise, eden",but thats a place nobody visited and wrote us back to give us a SIT rep.

Oh, there will be peace alright....when the AntiChrist rises and you all praise him as a savior. But true peace?? Nope, afraid not....not in this world. The next world? You bet.

To exist means there also exists your opposite. Life and the Universe works on this opposing poles principle; they are forever in a dynamic relationship, always changing.

Do you think a blind man knows what darkness is?
If it were always day time, would you call it "day" time?

There can never be "true peace". If there was, would we even know what it was? It would be hard to "know" something without knowing its opposite in some way.
