No typically states do not have residency requirements. Only exception is if you are gay and want to get married you must be a permanent resident of Mass to get married and have it mean anything. If you are straight you can go to any state in the US and get married, even if you dont live there. But you have to get a marriage license from a town or city hall in that state (any town or city hall). Some licenses take several days after applying to be able for pick up. And you have to both be present and bring several forms of identification with you (birth certificates, licenses, passports (if you have one), etc.) so plan ahead. Read the state's website for more info. Most state websites are like state.gov Example:

no you just have to obtain a marriage license from the county and state where the ceremony was performed. For example if you live in New York but are getting married in Orange county, CA then you would get a license from OC and the minister would sign it and that is that, it doesn't matter where you live as long as the license comes from the state and county where you got married.

Usually not, but your marriage license needs to come from the city where you're getting married.
Call the county clerk's office and ask. Or check the state's official government Web site.

no, as far as I know you can get married in any state but the marriage license you purchase must be in the same county that you are getting married in

It depends on the state, but usually you just need to get your license in the state where you'll be married.
