because gas station does not want people smoke it it?
Or are you asking about outside by the gas pumps? No smoking there because gasoline is quite flamable.

Gas stations carry the highly flammable petrol and diesel. Thus smoking in a gas station is considered a very high risk and dangerous act. If any of the flammable liquids come into contact with a naked flame, the whole station could go up in a fireball.

Well lets just think about this for a moment--small moment because that is all the time you will have if you smoke around gas...gas and cigarettes just don't mix..do you like explosions? Kaboom!!! is what you will hear and feel if you do this..well there went your small moment!!

Gas and a lit cigarrette or a match will start a fire....explosion....gas is highly flammable and think how much gas is at a station...

Well, duuuuuhhh! Gas fumes and lighted cigs DON'T belong together! Massive explosions come to mind here!

if you are asking about actually inside the station, i don't know it's crazy, but outside right next to a tank would be crazy

Because gasoline fumes really *do* ignite and start fires. It happens a lot more often than you might think. Just because you haven't ever seen it happen, doesn't mean that it doesn't (or can't) happen.
