For doctors yes, they want to see exactly how far along the baby is. In my experience with my doctor he wanted an ultra sound right away to see exactly how the baby was, how far along everything was, and a due date, this is just a proceedure doctors do to make sure everything is going fine and to get an idea of due date. Even if you are sure you conceived on that date the doctor wants to be sure so he knows where the baby is developmentally. Midwives do things a bit differently and it varies from doctor to doctor and midwife to midwife. In my experience (I was about 4 months when tests came back positive on the pregnancy thing) but at that point they needed to know, I had one other ultra sound right around 8 months pregnant to make sure the baby was okay and healthy and that there weren't going to be any health complications.

It isn't standard practice but if there is any question about the dating of the pregnancy, number of fetuses, or anything threatening the pregnancy like bleeding or cramping, then yes, it can be used. Typically this early on it would be a transvaginal ultrasound.

No, usually doctors do not give them this early unless they think there may be a problem or more than 1 baby. Sometimes they do an early scan to check for dates if there is a question about how far along a woman is. Insurance companies usually only pay for one scan so if you have a difficult company, they may refuse to pay for it. If you don't have any problems during your pregnancy, they will only pay for one more scan, usually around 20 weeks.

I don't know, maybe. Last pregnancy the military said that I had to wait until I was 20 weeks, but in the civilian world it can be different. Hey we conceived on the same day!

Your being pregnant in weeks is counted from the 1st day of your final accepted menstrual era. this ability that your toddler became into conceived someplace around the commencing up of April. reason being is which you will have conceived any time after the commencing up of your final era, so going via that date provides the expected due date.

That would have put you at about 7 weeks I'm guessing. My doc did an ultrasound at my first appointment with both of my pregnancies, at 8 weeks. So yes, depending on your doctor and his/her practice its very normal to have one that early, but its not standard practice at every doctors office.

It's a little early, but it's certainly not going to do any harm. Your doctor can check for a lot of problems that way, so the sooner you are seen, the better.
Congrats!

yes, to make sure you are as far along as they think you are. The earlier a sonogram, the more reliable the due date.
