Maybe, JUST FREAKIN' MAYBE, actions and decisions by INDIVIDUALS should be blamed on those INDIVIDUALS and not on "the culture."
If it was as stupid as you Libs say for George Bush to talk about encouraging a "culture of life" - an issue on which I AGREE with you - then it's just as stupid to blame some amorphous "gun culture" for the actions of sick individuals.

Arglebargle, the 2nd Amendment says no such thing. It protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. A nuclear bomb weighs what, 2 tons? Try "bearing" that.

if you want to compare the number of gun assaults in the U.S. versus those in Japan, you will LOSE big time.
you can never eliminate it, but certainly we can remove some of it.
there are 39 deaths per year in Japan because of guns. there are over 11,000 per year in the U.S. because of guns.

There is something of a gun culture in Japan, but it belongs mostly to the Yakuza (organized crime syndicates). These gangs have strict standards and almost never shoot anybody that doesn't belong to a gang, so law-abiding citizens are usually safe. The Yakuza will even pay compensation when they accidentally harm somebody who isn't a gang member.
I am afraid that the shooting of the mayor of Nagasaki is grounds for suspicion that he had criminal ties; either that, or the Yakuza are going beyond their traditional role in society. I will be curious to learn more.

There are several laws against what the Korean student did. His gun was illegal, and carrying it on campus is illegal, and shooting people is illegal, so why would one more law have changed anything? The whole argument defies logic- "make another law, and criminals will be controlled." Bovine feces! Criminals don't obey laws. One more law won't change that. It will simply make it easier for them to break the law, since they won't be shot by a citizen protecting his home and family.

So let's - as the 2nd amendment says - give everyone a nuclear bomb. Who will you blame then when some kook sets theirs off over a spat with his girlfriend?
Your line of reasoning fails.

There are idiots in every culture. Take you, for instance.
Some cultures make it harder for their idiots to get a hold of firearms. This is a good thing. Nothing is completely foolproof though. Even idiots get lucky sometimes. Again, I offer you as an example.

Cut and paste:
As I have posted elsewhere, the crack head still gets his crack, the heroin addict still gets needles, the pot head still gets his weed, the meth addict still get his hit. These are all criminal acts punishable under our laws but for some strange reason the criminal is still able to get an illegal substance, laws mean nothing to the lawless.

Criminals will still be able to get guns, even if all the guns were picked up today. It only shows gun control is ineffective.
