We need to do more to keep firearms off the streets and out of the hands of criminals. I'm not saying ban all the guns, but we should seriously look at the Virginia Tech shootings and think about what could of been done at the federal, state, and local level to prevent this from happening.

It should be a discussion for all Americans to get in on. Maniacs do not discriminate between liberals and conservatives when they kill. We need to figure out how we can prevent the next Virginia Tech or Columbine from happening.

It really pisses me off that people don't want to do anything about this growing problem. What is it going to take? One of your kids getting shot, or worse, killed, before you realize the system we have now isn't working?

I completely agree with you.
If guns were harder to get, maybe the VA Tech tragedy would never have happened.

There are enough gun laws on the books. What we need is enforcement. Legal guns aren't the problem. This guy had two guns with the serial numbers filed off. Illegal guns in an illegal act. If this nut didn't have a gun he would have been a suicide bomber. His rage is inexplicable as of now but, one thing for certain, he would have done damage in some way. Why did no one see the signs? Even in Columbine other kids knew the shooters had severe problems but no one said anything. Not to change the subject but, as they say in NY, "If you see something, say something!".

First. Stop with the victim type thinking process. The key is to get more weapons into the hands of law abiding citizens, not less.
There are a lot of guns out there. More restrictions on gun control are only for people who follow the laws. Criminals don't follow laws. This man was not a known criminal.
The way it could have been controlled is to stop him asap. Armed faculty could have prevented this tragedy.

Eg. People don't start stuff with cops. They are armed and shoot back.

PUNISH PARENTS AND THE MEDIA!

Isn’t it time people started raising their children properly no matter what country they’re from? Americans have carried gun for over 200 years. It’s just been this last generation that has been so violent when our society is suppose to be so civilized! Parents should and need to take responsibility for raising a generation of violent children!

No, don't blame it on the guns blame it on the people behind the guns!

Ask how many kids have to die before PARENTS take responsibility for raising their kids in a violent way. Parents should ban violence on the air waves and TV and movies and video games. Instead PARENTS use them as Cheap baby sitters!

Put the blame where it belongs on the PARENTS AND THE MEDIA not the guns!

Don't TREAD on our Constitutional Rights to protect ourselves from a Tyrant Government by banning guns because American parents are bad parents and want to shift the blame to someone else rather than take responsibility for raising violent children!

If PARENTS threw more Love at their kids instead of money we would be a better society!

IF WE OUTLAW GUNS THEN ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS!

Can you come up with a way of getting guns out of the hands of criminals ? Make it against the law to have a gun ? It was illegal to have, sell, drink, alcohol, but it was possible to get all you wanted from criminal sources.
It was, and is against the law to have certain drugs. Now it's illegal, so it's impossible to find any coke, meth, weed, and all the others, right ?
If guns are made illegal to own, do you suppose all the bank robbers would turn their guns in for fear of being fined ?
We have learned long ago to not make laws that can't be enforced .

Enforce the laws already on the books. You want real gun control? How about this, get caught with a gun during commision of a crime you go to prison for life with no parole. Murder with a gun automatic death penalty. If more law abiding citizens were armed this kind of thing would be stopped quickly. An armed society is a polite society.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appalachian_School_of_Law_shooting

"On January 16, 2002, the Dean, Anthony Sutin, Professor Thomas Blackwell, and student Angela Dales were shot and killed by disgruntled student Peter Odighizuwa, 43, of Nigeria. Three other students were shot but survived. The abrupt ending to Odighizuwa's shooting spree is attributed to two students with personal firearms who quickly took action."

It's impossible to take those guns from the criminals but we should send a message that Americans will defend themselves if attacked. It's hard to do that in a classroom of unarmed civilians.

If someone REALLY wants a gun, they're going to get it.

I'm not talking about buying one from Galyans, or Bass proshops, or even a gun show. They're going to get something from some seedy underbelly, with the serials filed off and untraceable.

People have been obtaining illegal items for YEARS, and they will continue to do so - IF THEY REALLY WANT THEM.

He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither.

This will never happen whilst the gun companies are so rich and powerful that the government is under their control because of tax dollars.
Most of the government's major players are major shareholders of the gun companies.

There are over 250 million registered guns in America and the authorities have no idea where 3/4 of them actually are and nor do they care.

Taking America's freedom away is hardly the right response to these problems. Instead of floating these knee-jerk responses, why not fix the real problem? Want to know how? Read my 360 blog for today.
