That was not in the U.S. look at the things that are happening, like for example yesterday at VA Tech, we still need to protect our country, that guy was an immigrant here on a visa and quite disturbed. I am not saying that everyone that is a immigrant is like that, Im just saying that if we are still at war, then I think our borders need to be shut down until we are out of Iraq and our country is "safe".. what do you think?

Im not by any means saying that it was not a tradgedy, and I am not by any means a hateful person, just wanted some opinions, no need to be rude.

You don't go far enough. We should remove all immigrants, and place a twenty year moratorium on immigration. After we straighten out our country, than we can start admitting immigrants, to be come citizens.

A DELIGHTFUL method to destroy our economy !! Let's become JUST like North Korea !!

Seriously, the FIRST thing that popped into my head as I read your question was to wonder HOW MUCH MONEY Disneyworld, Florida takes in PER DAY from foreign visitors !!

The QUICK GUESS: 16.6 million visitors per year (fact from Walt Disney WORLD) = 45.5K per day. Figure ONLY 10% of those are foreigners = 4,500 foreigners per day. Each spents $30 on the ticket and another $70 on food, goodies and lodging = $450,00 PER DAY !! That then equals an ANNUAL loss about $160 Million per year. JUST at that ONE location !!

Then to take your logic and look at the economic loss this would cause to large tourist cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC, Boston, Honolulu, etc... QUICKLY we're talking about a loss of several hundred BILLIONS of dollars of lost tourism dollars... not to mention the US jobs LOST because of the reduced tourism.

Add to that the money brought into the US economy by students and legal residents...

Now I agree we SHOULD close our borders to ILLEGAL entrance, ENFORCE the Visa's, and DEPORT the illegals.

The shooter was here almost a decade prior to 9/11/01, and here legally. He was ONE nut.

That kid has been here LEGALLY since 1992. Shutting our borders completely wouldn't have made an iota of difference. Legal immigrants have always brought many wonderful talents we need in the US. However, ILLEGAL immigrants are a totally different thing. We need to know who is here in the US and why. We need to plug the leak that is letting the illegals in here. But none of that would have made a difference yesterday.

We will never be "safe" unfortunately...people of other cultures and countries only know what they are being told by THEIR government....just as we are...I do not think shutting down our borders is the answer....With computers, the internet and all kinds of "smart bombs" we will never be able to say we are safe again....
Besides, my ancestors (and I would bet yours as well) came over here from somewhere "else" to better themselves...I'm glad the borders were open when my ancestors came here...

I don't think we should close them, but we need to tightin them up. We need to know who is comming here and for what reason.

Just for basic health issues if nothing else. TB and Polio were all but wiped out, but now there's a resurgence in the California schools. Most cases are comming up from the south, Hati has a 25% HIV rate among it's population. If they wish to come here, we need to ensure they don't bring unwanted and dangerous ailments with them.

Trust me, if America wa to close borders, gas prices would be arround $5.00 a gallon. I don't want that.

Plus, the guy was a resident, so he could have entered the US anyway.

Then let's also stop receiving imports from other countries. Let's stop buying German or Japanesse cars...never know they might have hidden explosives. Let's boycott French cheese...never know, they might be trying to kill Americans with hidden poision.

Let's stop intelligent doctors from entering our country.

Also, all Americans need to stop going on vacation because every country is out to get us.

Seriously, let's be logical, fair, and not turn this tragedy into a war of hate.

If the US shut its borders down, that would be great!! Please do!! That way they could supply their own crude oil and fossil fuels. Other countrys could keep there own lumber supply, wheat and other agricultural supplys. On top of that they can fight there own war in the middle east instead of dragging everyone else in it!
