their tactics of yesterday....trying to get the kids all riled up with the univ.......today this one student was being interviewed...after expressing her anger, the tv newswoman said, "Oh...so you're angry with the university?" As tho she was saying, "See!!! WE the media did not say this...SHE did."
Everyone but Greta Van Sustern was trying to get a lynching party up yesterday, it seems.
Young people...... nay...all of us who listen to the media, are impressionable. But especially the young. I wonder just how much the media has played into their thoughts and words.

Personally, the last thing >>> I <<< was thinking about was to put blame on the univ. and the police. Then again, I do not make my living at trying to promote my own views on NATIONAL TV, especially at a time of tragedy.

Your thoughts,please.

That's very observant of you. Most people allow their thoughts to be "led" by media manipulation. I watched the press conference yesterday with the VA Tech president Charles Steger, and it seemed like the journalists asking questions already wanted his head for not shutting down the school. Honestly, a university can't prepare for something like this, and I don't find them at fault for "allowing" this to happen.

He said it over and over: we live in a free society that requires a certain amount of trust from the community. That trust is easily granted, and unfortunately, easily betrayed.

But yah, media networks are experts in manipulating us. The best thing to do is to unplug and to think with a free mind.

I do agree that the media plays a big part in increasing the panic of an issue...but in this situation I think the media also provided valid information about the president of VT, and the lack of response.

I feel that so many opinions that people claim as their own are actually highly influenced by the media. Conversations that people have concerning politics, shootings, and so on, appear to be based (usually) on some form of media. Many people do not sift through information and actually think about it before repeating it.

"Jumping on the bandwagon", so to speak.

I just avoid TV altogether and use my brain. Just realize everything you see is designed for the highest shock value possible. What you should be doing is looking BEHIND this media frenzy..it's what is going on in the background that you really should be paying attention to.
And I mean no disrespect to the victims.

The media is only looking for one thing, and that's ratings, so they feel that it's essential for them to sensationalize everything....they only tell the public what they think we want to hear and how we want to hear it....."they" the media have done an excellent job of brainwashing the American public....I believe it's high time we did something to change it...DON'T YOU!!!!!!!!

I agree, it seemed like the first thing they did was try to point the blame away from the insane killer.
