Depends on the country, in Britain it is not a rule that gloves will be worn or even that utensils are used.
I have lost count of the number of arguments I have had when served with hands after the shop assistant has taken money from the previous customer.
So yes you are right.

Hi,

It is generally deemed that having gloves on is more hygenic but this is only the case if u change them regularly, when i worked in a sandwich shop i always let the customer see i was washing my hands before serving the food.

As for arguing with the customer i wudn't argue jus put some on if u have none just explain that u have washed ur hands with a reputable antibacterial handwash before makin there food.

i wudn't want hands touching my food i prefere people use gloves.

As for the law there is nothing that states u have to use them but it is advised that u do.

My mom worked as a food server for like 30 years and she never wore gloves when serving food to any one. Your customer is wrong!!!

I worked as a food server for a few years my self and I didn't have to wear gloves. Your customer may have seen gloves worn at a banquet where the servers were asked to wear white gloves for the serving. I worked as a banquet server for a while and some events they asked us to wear white gloves, boy do they ever get dirty fast and it looks terrible too. Err go to term white glove service!!
But most of the time we wore no gloves.

Tell your customer about the banquet servers and that they some times wear white gloves. But that other wise you customer is totally wrong.... They loose and you are right!

So its called continue to wash your little hands!!

Due to some peope not washing their hands regularly enough you should wear protective gloves when serving food.Thee are normally of a polythene type glove which are disposable. Some customers can be picky about this if you don't wear them.

If your hands are coming in direct contact with the food, it is alsways better to wear gloves than not. The laws of each state and food institution may vary, but if a customer feels more comfortable with getting food from a gloved hand than a bare hand, I would think it better to be gloved. After all, you are in business to please the customer are you not?

As long as you dont touch the food directly you're ok with just washing and sanitizing. Counter people at fast food restaurants dont wear gloves but the grill people have to.

Serving? No, because your hands aren't supposed to be all over the customer's food when you serve it to them.

Preparing? Yes, because this is when you handle the food items.
