The boys might say that staying at home would be harmful for kids.
But...women who stay at home can be more likely to be bored and depressed, which makes them less effective mothers.
Boys might say that working would be too stressful for women.
But...feeling bored and unfulfilled can be a huge stressor!

For good quotes to use in the debate, see Betty Friedan's Feminine Mystique. That book is all about how a culture that encourages women to stay at home is damaging, both for husbands, wives, and children. It's an amazing book, very well written, and has a lot of true stories about how women who stay at home have suffered.

Well, I want to first say that I do not believe if the mother works or doesn't has any impact on a child. However, the actions of each obviously does.

Far too often, we use old "mammas idea" to make decisions that impact our children. More and more today women are seeking out data to make their decisions.

I'm attaching a link to an excellent study that includes references to other studies throughout the years.

In general, not only do many experts today believe that day care is not hurting a child, it's actually giving them an advantage. And isn't that truly the goal as a parent to give our children every advantage in the world? I personally recommend at least 12 hours of day care a week in an actual center (can't be out of someone's home) for development.

So, I would start your debate by saying....a long time ago, we thought the world was flat. We later learned it was not. In order to make a determination, we used DATA.

Before the 1970s,woman believed it was the best thing for their babies to stay at home with them. Today, we have data that says not only is this not the best scenario for children, it's not the best scenario for the mother.

Stay at home moms are more than twice as likely to be obese and depressed. And for what? To satisfy an old wives tale.

I'm attaching a study that references various other studies that you may wish to reference.

Chances are the person next to you will have dated theories (not studies or data) and a "put the kids first" mentality.

Good luck on your debate! Remember, You can't lose this one! You have data! They have ideas-disproven theories.

if their are no kids then both adults should work in a house hold
1. it will get them out in the worlds and help the game of life!
2. meeting others and networking for personal connections
3. split house chorse!
4. may have bills paid!

over all if there are kids they are all ready half off there cracker and WILD so i think one human in a house hold should stay at home with the kid and focus there life on housework, kids fun stuff, and homework!

sorry i don't break it down by sex cuz i don't care who works and who don't as long as you understand that if you have kids someone SHOULDN't WORK

BTW Why should a women manage both work and house hold why can't it be equal?
Success can only be measured by ones thoughts and views of what is success ful on to them!
and it's a personal line can be shared with others but best to keep to yourself!

A woman doesn't have to have to stay at home if she doesn't want to unless there are children involved. Mothers should be mothers first and foremost. However, if there are no children in the home or the children are grown then why can't women have jobs outside the home. You can't expect a woman to stay at home and twiddle her thumbs. A house can only be cleaned so much. A job provides a fulfilling outlet where women can feel that they are of use to society aside from being mothers.

It's not a debate on what women should or should not do. If a woman wants to stay home and take care of her children, then that is her decision. Some women wouldn't feel fulfilled doing that, and that is also their decision. Besides the fact that no one has the right to say what an adult human being should or should not do with his or her life, it is simply unrealistic for all women to stay home. Working is not a luxury - it is something we do to survive.

Women, and men for that matter, can manage both - both my parents worked all my life. I was in daycare for about one hour before and after school. Not being around my mother and father for those two hours per day was fine by me. In addition, with the money that both my parents earned, we lived in a nice house, went on faboo vacations twice per year, and my university education is paid for by them. I would choose that over living in some dump and never having the opportunity to see the world or go to university. I think going to daycare for two measly hours per day is a small price to pay for financial stability.

EDIT: That is just my opinion - I am glad my mom worked. But ultimately what a woman decides to do with her life is her decision, and hers only, not a bunch of trolls' on Yahoo Answers.

I'm sorry, but just because a woman chooses to stay home does NOT mean she's a throwback to the 50's.

Some of us simply don't have to. We spend our time on non-profit, sometimes philanthropic ventures.

You can't always measure a person's success by their paycheck. Many people are capable of making substantial contributions to their society without compensation.

Women should only stay at home if:

1) Their husband makes enough money to support the entire household.
2) They genuinely want to.

Otherwise, having a career brings about a sense of usefulness to society and confidence in one's talents.

Women go to work for the same reason men do...for money to live in a capitalist society.
If you want women to stay home you'd have to pay them for that.

Pretend that you're a President of a Corporation (Father).
First you need to determine what your mission statement is (Goal of family).

Based on your goals and desires you find a woman to take the position of 'Wife'. She's good at her position, but shows signs of depression or boredom with her position. She goes outside of her established boundaries for your mission statement and job description and finds news ways to accomplish your mission statement by working outside the house. She's happy and shows joy at contributing more to the corporation (family). Do you tell her to stop and cease advancing for the corporation (family) or do you encourage her to be all she can be for the corporation (family)???

Some presidents give their workers more tedious work that doesn't challenge the inidividual (more kids & chores) ... but these presidents usually have high turn-over. Sometimes with corporations and families, the mission statement (family goals) needs to be changed in harmony with all the members of the corporation (family). Other times, re-organizaion and new hires (day-care, maids, lawn services) are needed to substain the growth pains in corporations (or families).

Think about it ... if you were in a stagnate job that had no advancement to fulfill your talents ... what would you do??? Men should be a leader ... but we must remember a good leader allows his followers to do their jobs and will jump in to do the grunt work when the load's too hard. Leader's are flexiable, and willing to take their followers with them in new directions if opportunities are given to them.

why wouldn't you want to stay home with kids if you had some. The modern world is crap ya. Women provide a home for nine mos, then the babes are absolutely defenseless when they are born. Women provide food, because why would you give a newborn food produce by some corp whose in it for the money. If you want to ladder climb, welcome to the rat race, women are just a capable. I sorry but biologically you were made to have kids, come to terms with it, if you don't like that reality go to a clinic for gender modification, and welcome to the machine.
