is I fell and hurt my back I went back to work for 20 hours and the other half on workers comp- the workers comp people asked me if I wanted to get a settlement for some reason. I don't know why that is. Is it because if I go back working full time my employer is going to fire me?

They want you to settle in order to close your claim. Your employer can't fire you for being off on worker's comp. If you do settle, you will not be able to get any more payments on your claim, so I would be careful, especially with a back injury. You never know when you might have problems from it again. I, personally, would not settle.

Much as I dislike lawyers, it might be a good thing to get an opinion. As was mentioned, back injuries can flare up and become chronic down the road. You want to make sure you don't have any lingering disability. Workers Comp's role is to get you back to work ASAP so they don't have to pay.
