The latest date for the next General Election is 29th April 2010. This is the last Thursday before the 5th anniversary of this government.

The government can call an election any time before then.

Unless the government lose a vote of confidence, the earliest the General election can possibly be is May 2009, and the latest is May 2010. Within that year, the Prime Minister decides - usually choosing the date which will give his party best advantage, although by convention its usually in May or October. If the government is in a position of popularity the General election is usually called early (that would mean May 2009 or Oct 2009). If the government are unpopular, as is likely this time, they will hang on till the last possible moment - so that would mean May 2010.

By elections are on the 3.5.07. The calculation for a possible general election is complex and very much dependent on our politicians. They have to announce dissolving parliament first, then announce a date for elections to finish off work within parliament. Who knows...........when our PM goes the public could demand a General Election. (Usually 5 years from the last).

Low yet no longer yet 0. they could nonetheless pull it decrease back if: Boris Johnson commits some disastrous blunders in London; the business device recovers extra strongly than predicted in 2009--2010; the Conservatives struggle through some form of meltdown or disaster. even if, it ought to be stated i'd not placed a lot funds on a Labour victory in 2010.
