The pro-choice issue is only about WHO gets to make the decisions -- the individual or the government.
There is a difference between allowing people to make the choice for themselves to keep the child or not, and the govt forcing them (one way or the other).
Also, don't forget that the freedom of choice laws are the only thing stopping states from mandating abortion or forced sterlization. If the right to choose goes away, the govt can pass any laws it wants, just like China. Do you really want that?
Freedom of choice is not a minority position, just because you happen to disagree with the choice someone makes

and what controversy would that be.
abortion rights, or the right to chose has been the law in america for over a generation.
polls show that the vast majority of americans wish to keep this in place and obviously politicians agree or they would have done something about it.
what warrants study is how this issue has become a wedge issue and that has prevented anyone on either side of the issue from even trying to actually solve the problems that lead to the need for abortions.
lets face it, some issues are murky - and complex.
abortion is not one of them - we all know that the vast majority of abortions happen due to unwanted pregnancies. MOST of us know how a woman gets pregnant - there are no grey areas here.
this issue is eminently solvable - but no politicians in america have EVER advanced a plan to reduce unwanted pregnancies.
i think, as a nation we need to as ourselves why this is...

Abortion is a private matter. The unborn are not members of society, therefore they are not entitled to the protection of the laws in a secular society. One can believe that abortion is utterly immoral and still believe it should be legal. There is absolutely no contradiction. The laws in a secular government are intended to ensure the security of the citizenry and to preserve order, not to enforce a moral code.

People like Austingirl fail to take the rights of the fetus into account.
This is the whole difference between pro and anti abortion people.
Pro abortion people say it's the woman's body and it's her decision.
Anti abortion people say once she's pregnant, it's no longer just her body. She is carrying another human with rights.

There is no such thing as a "view" on this subject. Abortion is murder no matter what the reason or circumstance. You cannot have an opinion on a question of morality.

I am against it-but you can't legislate morality-people will have abortions if they want. Their should be alternatives made availble to women-day care- job training etc. to help them deal with their responsiblity-also the men involved should be made to help out or get locked up.Just saying you are against abortion (like the fake evangelicals) and not offering alternatives to the tough realities of raising these most often unwanted children-does not help.

Abortion should be banned- permanently.
Doesn't a woman have a choice? Yes. She can choose the keep her panties on, and her legs crossed. Once she makes the choice to have sex, she should live with the consequences- and that doesn't include putting the kid on welfare for taxpayers to support.
