That's how it is in the UK and last year there were only 46 homicides involving firearms. In Britain even the police don't carry guns... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,266509,00.html

A police state.
IF we sacrifice freedom for security based on government security we have neither security or freedom
If guns are outlawed only the outlaws will have them.
Beslan Russia - 300 plus children died as the result of terrorists, and the list goes on.
we have strong gun laws, and people with intent will find a way to perpetrate. Guns are tools as are fire, knives, pitchforks, ammonium nitrate, jet fuel, gasoline, the problem is NOT the object. The problem is the perpetrator.
I believe many people have become willing to usurp their personal liberty for security they will clamor for a police state before long.
I believe that tragedies such as this ought to give us a reason to pause and look at the causes as to why angry people do atrocious and horrific acts.
I believe the media is culpable. I believe that parents are culpable, I believe liberals are culpable, I believe by removing any semblance of conflict from schools we not given kids healthy outlets for conflict and aggression.
When I was a kid, I carried my 22 rifle and 20 gauge shotgun in the truck of my car so I could go hunting after school, I never once thought when I was getting picked on by a bully to go get the gun and kill him.. I thought differently because I respected myself and those around me. If it came to blows with the bully it would be with fists in the parking lot. a bloody nose generally stopped it.
Guns are not the problem. Ignorance of anything is dangerous and society has become ignorant of firearms. Both of my children have certified in hunter safety and firearm training. They not only know HOW to use firearms but HOW NOT to use them. This is the problem with schools today, we no longer accept firearms as a norm so they've become abnormal AND people clamor for control. This is wrong.
The media is wrong in reporting facts. This not the worse, not even close.

We'd live in a world where criminals had machine shops next door to drug labs. Guns aren't difficult to make with equipment from a decent machine shop, say what you'd find at an auto mechanic's. We've banned everyone from having heroin and cocaine, but those aren't in short supply for those who are willing to break the law: drug dealers could easily include guns from other country's in their shipments. And if we look at places with strict gun laws and high crime rates (e.g. South Africa) we see that guns are routinely stolen from army depots, police stations, etc.
So if guns were banned (except for those in the armed forces) then we'd live in a world where criminals had as many guns as they have now, but where people who aren't willing to break the law are disarmed and unable to defend themselves against anyone bigger, stronger, or better armed than them. Guns are what makes civilization possible.

I live in a country like that and I feel very safe by the idea that not every idiot is able to buy a gun very easy.
That is not gonna change because there is no reason to make a law in which people would be able to buy firearms easy. If a law like that would be proposed the whole country would find it a ridiculous and very dangerous idea. A law like that would never get through, and for a good reason.
Our crime rate is not as high as the crime rate in the US, neither are accidents with firearms. Of course there are occasional shootings sometimes, and you can buy weapons illegal, but it is not as easy as in the US to get yourself a gun. If someone is pissed off, he can't just grab a gun and start shooting.
There is less violence in our country. Not only where I live, but in many countries where having guns is mostly illegal. The whole idea that criminals would control the country is not true. Many countries are the proof for that.
We are also not controlled by fear.

Unsafe, don't think for a minute people can't make their own, I know of 3 ways off the top of my head I could make a gun. Banning them is not the answer. Getting rid of the nut on the other end is were the problem is.

An interesting idea.
And who would be the armed forces? Whom would they obey? Whom would they represent? Who would control them?
As Americans whose Constitution mentions the need for a "well regulated militia," we should think about this.
Actually, guns can be used for other purposes than shooting people; like shooting animals. Some people might still need them for this... But maybe there are alternatives...

The criminals will always have guns. A gun ban will not protect anyone. It's not guns that kill people, it's people that kill people. I don't feel that we would be any safer or better. There are other ways to harm someone.

Does Adolf Hitler or Nazi Germany give you any idea`s how about Russia or China or N. Korea and the list of Country`s can go on and on. Maybe we should think about this before we give up any more of our constitutional right`s. And we become a Police state or a Communist state.

It would be a kind of world where the general public would be completely incapable of defending and protecting themselves. What a nightmare!! Thank the founding fathers for giving us the right to bear arms.
