It has to have a verb form. And it should sound like a strong word that can stand alone. Like "excel" or "achieve".

A person who strives to reach goals is can be described with the noun: VALIENT. He shows valiency or valience.

Valient is also used as an adverb, as in "valient effort".

One can't help thinking of "Prince Valiant" when using this word -- note the spelling difference.
