The problem is that the nero I got if for windows 98 and I have windows XP the Nero came with an cd/dvd ROM i bought. what can I do I want that because my windows media player doesn't work.

why buy nero or any other CD/DVD burning software when you can get it free there are lots of free burning software on the net, burn on dvd cd is a good one I use it,,, (this is Linux software)
also if you moved over to ubuntu linux you would get all the free software you would ever need it is more up to date than windows xp, better supported

Do not understand u have problem in installing ur Nero in Winxp ???
Try this one - http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm its a good one and plays almost all of the file formats.

buy (or otherwise acquire) a newer version of nero burning rom. http://www.nero.com
You could also download a trial version from their site.
