i just bought a 2001 Ford Taurus SES. it came with just one key, which is not a problem, but i believe since it is an SES it had a remote keyless entry at one point. it did not come with the remote, but how can i tell if it had one to begin with? any suggestions welcome! i would like to replace the remote if it is supposed to have one with it...

Call your Ford dealer with the VIN and they might be able
to tell you.

I believe the SES did come with the keyless entry. Do you have a keypad on the driver's side door? If so, then you do have the option. go to a dealer and he will have a bunch of spares floating around and they may give you one, but they will want to charge you to program it. I forget the exact sequence to program it, but I think it may be to turn the ignition key on and off for 8 times then hit the key fob and it will program it in. That's just a guess from the best of my memory.
