You should really look into the sound of the baby cry , the secret of baby language (it was on Oprah)
Nah- means hungry
ah- Means tired
Ehh- Gas
Hhhhaaaw- Is "I'm uncomfortable"
Owe- I'm Tired

I actually tried this with my newborn (it's only good for the 1st three months) and it actually WORKED... I was watching the special and holding my crying baby and watching the show, I then recognized the cry Ehhh, held my baby up, she burped and immediately stopped crying! I was amazed! I will try to look up the web site for you....

Lets just scratch the COLIC excuse. Colic is a diagnosis that doctors give when they don't take the time to figure out the symptom causing the fussyness (colic). You need to determine the cause which can be a tricky task.

I have a 4 month old and have experianced a lot of fussyness with her, here are a few no brainers to look for:

dirty/wet diaper
something poking him/her from clothing
tired - my baby still fusses when shes tired and sometimes just screams and screams...

this one my doctor told me about:

over fed! My daughter is an eater and it turns out when babies over eat it upsets their tummies causing major unhappyness...so, if your 3 week old is eating more than 2-3 oz, this might be it.

Of course there is the common gas problem, for this rub your babies back while having him/her face down across your legs. Talk to your doctor before trying Milacon (sp.) but it has helped my daughter.

Good luck, hope this helps some.

Babies cry for alot of reasons, they can not talk, it is their only form of communication.

Baby may be hungry, dirty, itchy, have a belly ache, be tired, bored, ect.....

There is probably nothing wrong with him. Your friend may want to invest in a swing. it helps soothe the baby when mom can't.

If that doesn't help, buy different diapers. Use different laundry soap. Turn the TV or radio off, or on whichever is the case.

Babies muscles get sore when to many people hold them, and they get fussy.

Hope something helps, I had a colic baby. NOTHING but the swing helped him until he was about 3 months old. He is now 18 and the best behaved of the 5 kids.

a baby cries bc something is wrong, they have no other way to express themselves , could be colic, but check physical things first, is the baby hungry, soiled, uncomfortable in any way, too hot too cold etc? maybe the baby wants a change of scenery, wants to be held, doesnt want to be held anymore, could be a million different things, my son was a cryer too, one thing that always made him happy was going for a walk, at only three weeks i dont know if the mom is feeling up to walking but maybe dad or a friend could take the baby for a walk and give mom some time for a nap, good luck!

See a doctor. Don't ask important questions like this here. I mean a little home remedy is great.

But we can only speculate.

Well, first of all you have to remeber that crying is a babies way of expressing its needs.
