Adults learn that sometimes, in order to get things done right, a little direction must happen. With that said, it the person asking for something to get done the first time, or when asking after a failed time, the asker might ask with a little direction. That's OK. That's insurance, or assurance.

But, if they always give direction, always assume you are a left handed clutz, well ... well, that is just a person I've got to get away from. I don't like Micro-Managers.

Sure, both I guess - but - I, personally also need the "why".....

Great point on the "how", though - A person put in the position of completing a task/goal is exponentially more likely to learn something if given the chance to think for themselves.....

Nothing is ever an A to B procedure - there are always steps between that are essential to the process - That was the Navy's problem - they were, of course, calculating for the lowest common denominator and wanted to ensure that Joe D. Heartland (the D is for dumbass) wouldn't screw up something critical - but for gods sake people - DON'T SWEAT THE TECHNIQUE

Ah, whatever - guess I'm just not good Mindless Drone material...

Simple truth: Some people in this world are better at things than others - and that is because they've found their own way of doin' it...

So, OK - final answer: Tell me "how" but only if I ASK!

Oh my god yes. My wife does this to me all the time. She asks me to do a task and then as I am doing it or after I get done with it she starts to get upset sometimes because I didn't skin the cat the way she would have so I have to hear about it either while doing it or even worse it festers and then I usually hear about it in a couple of days. My usual answer is If you want it done a certain way then doing it your own damn self.

I would rather someone tell me what needs to be done and not how to do it unless I ask. If the person doesn't like how I'm doing it, they could do it themselves.

I'd rather be told what to do, and ONLY IF I ask for help, to be told how to do it. I don't like when I know how to do something and people go on for an hour explaining it to me.

Ya, i hate when a supervisor at work feels the need to go into detail about how to do mindless tasks...it makes me feel like they think that we are stupid and cant think for ourselves.
