I'm visiting a friend in Boston for the weekend and looking for a cheaper way to get there than Amtrak or Greyhound. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance :)

Having done that route a lot in the past, I'd have to say, those are probably your cheapest options. Greyhound being much cheaper than Amtrak.

If you can drive, just take 95 up all the way to 128 to 93 into Boston, or if you didn't want to take 95, you'd go up 91 to 84E to Mass Pike (90) East all the way into Boston, but there's a toll that way. It's about 125 miles driving and you'd control the pace instead of the bus/train.

Check Bonanza/Peter Pan lines in case they service the route. Unfortunately, their website's been having some trouble lately so I couldn't verify for you.

Hope that helps!

Unfortunately, there's probably not much that's cheaper then Greyhound. They have cheaper buses from NYC to Boston ($15 one way last I checked), but you'd have to get to NYC which would be backtracking, and in the end you probably wouldn't be saving that much money (since you'd have to pay to get to NYC). Besides, the safety record of some of the cheaper buses is less than stellar. Amtrak is the nicest way to go but is unfortunately more expensive. You could always check with students in the area who might be going home for the weekend and willing to carpool if you throw in $10 or 15 for gas.... and Yale kids are probably good drivers, haha. I know Craigslist is a way to look into that. And if you're a student yourself then I believe Greyhound and Amtrak both offer student discounts. Not sure how much but it's worth looking into.

Cheaper than Greyhound? Hitch or Walk.
