I own a handgun for recreational shooting and a shotgun for hunting. My guns are kept locked away. I do not keep bullets in the house. My children have been educated on gun safety and the dangers of not being responsible with guns. I allow my children to shoot the guns at a safe firing range with adequate supervision. I do not believe everyone should own guns. I feel it should be the right of law-abiding citizens to choose to own a gun if they want.

DO I SOUND LIKE A NUT?

Longhair - Yes, I teach my children to use a gun. Have you ever heard of forbidden fruit? My children are responsible. They have chosen to learn how to shoot a gun, I did not decide for them.

No, you do not sound out of line.

In fact, you are a responsible gun owner.

My problem, as a fellow gun owner and hunter, is with the individuals and groups that have turned gun ownership into a divisive political issue.

Do I like all gun laws? Oh hell no!

Do we need to stop some people from owning guns? Absolutely!

You are not a gun nut. Just be ready to answer those who don't understand. Not all of the critics will understand. That's not my problem.

No, I am the same way friend. I own a bit more guns, but I keep them locked in a safe. You are not a gun nut, there are many millions of Americans just like you.

They call us gun nuts because its easier to call us some name than to actually listen to what we have to say, that people should be allowed to own guns if they so choose.

You don't sound like a nut. You sound like a responsible owner of personal firearms.

So many people have never (knowingly) been within fifty feet of a gun other than those carried by law enforcement officers- and are thusly intimidated by and/or afraid of them.

It's normal for people to be apprehensive of things that can harm or kill them.

It's also normal for people to be comfortable around things that can harm or kill after they've been properly educated and can safely interact with those things.

You don't sound like a nut to me- unless you're asking this question from the command center of your three-foot concrete reinforced, Eastern Nevada Compound.

Yes. You are a nut that is against the liberal agenda. If we have 50-70% taxes, 30% unemployment, and wait-in-line socialized medicine, and a big govt full of entitlements and welfare, WHY DO YOU NEED A GUN? Sure the constitution says that we need to be able to form militias if the govt gets too big and tyrannous, but come on?! The govt knows whats best for you and knows how to take care of you. So the last thing they need is a bunch of crazy conservatives running around exercising their constitutional rights.

How are libs supposed to change this country into the United States of Europe if we have conservative gun nuts like you running around? GEESH!

PS: A house with a pool is 100X statistically more likely to kill your kid then him shooting himself with a gun. I dont see any outrage against pool owners?

Nope. You sound pretty responsible to me. My dad always had guns when we were kids, he collected them and used some for target shooting only. Bullets were kept somewhere, I don't even know where and guns were in a locked cabinet. My dad gave both my sister and I the option to learn how to shoot one of his pistols at a range. My sister did it and was fairly good. I chose not to. Both of us were educated not to ever play with guns or pick one up.

No and I wouldn't worry about it it ..
I'm sure you've been labeled a nut by some effeminate elitist liberal prick who's just too incompetent to own a gun and thinks everyone else is like him.
I'm also sure said sissy thinks it's better to cry like a baby and wait 20 minutes for the police to bag and tag you instead of defending yourself.

I agree though we shouldn't force people to own a gun.. but anyone who is law abiding and would like to own one should have the right.

You're not a nut. Neither am I, and I carry for personal protection (I started that before I worked in law enforcement). They call us gun nuts because they refuse to listen to what we have to say and we know that they're insane. Simple as that.
