My dd woke up this morning with puffy, water, red eyes with gunk on them that I had to wipe off with a wash cloth, she also had boogers in her nose. I noticed when she woke up at 4 this morning when I put her back down she had trouble going back to sleep cause she couldn't breath very well, but she ate her bottle just fine. Can I give her benadryl, she is 8.5 months old and weighs about 16 lbs?

Contact your Dr but generally no. Humidifier and a nose sucker are your best bet. You might want to have her checked for an ear infection too. My DD always has the goop come out her eyes when she gets an ear infection.

I recently had this exact problem with my eight month old, also about sixteen pounds. I called her doctor and he said it was very likely allergies. He suggested 3/4 teaspoon of children's benadryl every six hours or so. He also said that if the symptoms don't improve in a couple of days, to bring her in to be checked out. It has worked well so far for my baby, although it makes her sleepy. I've been told, however, that the generic wal-mart brand of benadryl doesn't make them drowsy, although I haven't tried it myself. Good luck!

You can give her benadryl but you need to contact your doctor to get the correct dosage. My daughters both took it in the NICU so I know little ones can have it but it has to be the right dose. Its a good idea with a little one to have them checked out first to make sure its nothing more than a cold or allergies.

The dosage is not on the bottle for a child that young, my daughter is 9 months and I just had the same thing happen...call a pharmacy and they will look up the correct dosage for you.

My baby's doctor said that we could give benadryl or sudafed after the age of 6 months...and it sounds like your poor baby could use some. I hope she feels better soon.

Not benedryl, the effects of antihistamines and infants are uncertain. Go with a tylenol infant cold.

Also, she might be more comfortable sleeping in a swing, bouncy chair, car seat, or stroller (sitting up)

Call your pediatrician's office. This is only the type of question a doctor or a nurse should answer for you. Good luck.

Call your doctor. It sounds like it might be a sinus infection.....could require antibiotics.
