The world has always been a scary place. These types of things have always been happening. The news reports about 70% things that are bad news, 20% celeb news, and 10% good news, that doesn't mean that's an accurate perspective. If you think about it on a larger scale, out of the THOUSANDS of colleges, universities, and other places of learning, there are a handful number of mass shootings we hear about. I dont know why everyone places the blame on God when bad things happen - well, I do - but you can see God all around - in the tens of thousands of students coming together to help the other students, families, and those affected by this event. Here in the DC/MD/VA area all the colleges and universities have pride in the area, and just by looking on facebook you can see there are thousands of people coming together for this cause. We at Univ of MD College Park are traveling to VA tonight to be with friends etc. Think about how by 32 dead we have thousands effected, and willing to step up to try to change the world. In every tragedy you can see hope and the brightness of humanity - what about the teacher who was killed while holding the door shut while his students jumped out the window -- he saved 12 lives there. So, know that there ARE good people in the world, and clearly there are more good people than bad.

No, I don't.
The world is, in fact, much *better* than it ever has been. Yes, there's still racism -- but much less than there has ever been in human history. Yes, there are rapists, child molesters, and war -- but we in fact have much LESS war than at any period of human history; there have always been child molesters and rapists. And there have always been nuts who went on killing sprees.
Two factors make the current situation more frightening to you: first, we have a worldwide media that instantly brings every bit of bad news anywhere in the world right into your home. 50 years ago, if the Virginia Tech situation had happened, you wouldn't know about it for days, you wouldn't have live reports from the scene, and the whole thing would have impacted you less. You now hear about everything that happens everywhere in the world, which makes it *seem* like things are worse -- these things have always happened, but before the whole world didn't hear about them.
Second is that the weapons we've developed make it easier to kill more people more quickly -- 100 years ago, a nutcase on a rampage would have been able to kill a few people...now with an automatic weapon easily available, the same nut can kill 32 in the same time.
There is no god -- this is all on us. But don't get discouraged, because the world is in fact better than it ever has been. We still have a long way to go to eliminate racism, religion-based hatred, cultural iconoclastic and territorial rivalries...but things are better than they ever have been. Have hope. :)
Peace.

There is nothing to Fear but Fear itself.... Which would you rather be, Predator or Prey>> Victim or Survivor... The old Boy Scout motto "Be prepared*" applies today as well since the beginning of Man... Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst..It is not the World thats getting scary but some of the people in it are scary.. What we have here is a people problem, not a World problem.. The only way this Madness will stop is when there are no People in the World only animals.... The Guilty are a minority, the innocent are the majority.. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill.....

All of the atrocious things you mentioned are so true and yet there are those among us that would say that nothing has changed, but things most certainly have changed. As resources of life become scarce and throw-away families increase, virtue, as we know it will probably be completely replaced by opportunism. The world's craving for material things and immorality are drawing in ever larger amounts of people. Solomon said that once a thing has been made crooked, it can't be straightened. The inspired apostle Paul told us these things would come:
2 Timothy 3
Godlessness in the Last Days
1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
The time of the end can be reaffirmed by what Jesus said in his composite sign given at Mathew 24.

I know it's horrible. I feel like helpless too, because what can you do? One individual actions has broke humanity as we know it and made us lose our faith in humanity and even each other. The world is a scary place, and it always will be there is no guartenee that we will always be safe and all we can do is hopefully is that people learn from these events and try to prevent them in the future.

There is and never has been a god.
The world isn't getting scarier. It's your perception. The world is actually better in my view. At least this country isn't raping, selling, enslaving, and killing people legally anymore! Quit watching the TV news. They only cover what gets ratings. So you'll consistently hear about murder and bad stuff. Seriously, take a break and relax.

"Where is God?" is an interesting question. Could it be that all this stuff is happening because we no longer want God in our society? We want the ten commandments taken down, we can't mention Him in schools; people have become so anti-God, and yet we wonder why things are such a mess now.

The worlds is getting more and more crazy! And it will not stop with this, it will get even more and more crazy.
What can we do? Nothing. I really believe that. The craziness of the human mind has totally controlled this planet, and now, it's too late.
