Suggest you go to a reputable seller who has been in business for a while and who offers good support. The support is as important as the price.

Dell and HP come to mind. First, figure out exactly what you want to do, then purchase your laptop to meet those needs. Don't buy more than you need - it is a waste of good money.

If you are going for gaming, then get the most you can afford. You will be able to get a desktop with the same specs for less $, if $ is an issue. A new laptop w/ Vista & gaming needs is going to require a ton of memory and a big hard drive. 2 gb on the memory and 120 gb on the hard drive at the bare minimum. Get the best graphics card you can afford as well.

apple, apple, apple. The best computer brand out there. You get way more than what you pay for.
