Look at the loudspeaker icon on the taskbar. Click to open it and see if it has the volume turned down low or the mute button clicked. Also check that a power led is on on one of the speakers. Maybe it is turned off or its power plug is out. See if the speaker's volume control is turned down. Go to the control panel and click the MEDIA icon . Now see if the sound is minimized or muted there.
Next is check the music source. If it is a CD maybe it has a sound problem such as its cable to the sound card being unplugged, See if any other sound sources are working (windows' logo chords or exclamation sounds). If not then maybe your sound card is dead.

if you do not have the driver software for the speakers, then the sound will not be played through them.
go onto control panel, and click on 'add hardware', if your speakers are plugged in and not installed then this should help you.
also, scan your pc for malware, as if there is any, it might have damaged the driver software.

Open volume control . Check Mute is not selected for VC and loudspeaker.
2. Start/Control panel/Sound and Audio Devices
check Mute is not selected.

Check the device manager and make sure that Sound has no yellow Exclamation marks you may have incorrect drivers installed.
