Have a clean driving record, clean criminal record, and start taking tests as often as you can. If that doesnt work, then enlist in the USAF as a fireman.

It will depend on the particular area that you live in, but most firefighters start off as volunteers. This can be done part time while you're working. If you go to your local firehouse, they can let you know what their particular procedures are for getting into the force.

Once accepted as a volunteer, you will be trained, and will need to maintain a certain level of fitness. In my area, after you have been a volunteer for over a year, you may apply for openings within your county. If you are accepted, you will be sent to an academy - or firefighting school - and be required to go through a series of both written and VERY physical tests. My friend Colin had to be able to carry a dead weight load up a three story ladder.

Also keep in mind that firefighters are union, and so it is a very hierarchical structure. Learn a lot, work hard, make friends in the department and you will make it.

Good luck!

You can join a Volunteer Fire Department and they get you the training. I have had a few friends do this and go on to work in this field.
You can study things that pertain to Fires. Forestry Management, Pyrotechnics and Chemical Reaction stuff. I never did this, but, these would be some areas of study, I will guess.
