When you buy a computer, we will say Dell, they will install Windows and then you become the End-User. You buy a New car, you become the End-User.
The product may pass through many people, but, the last person to buy and own it for their use is the end-user.

I believe this term came along with computers.
The end-user is the person who eventually uses the software, computer, etc.--after programmers, marketing folks, and lots of other people involved in its design have used it.
Software and other products ought to be designed for those who will use them--not the middle persons.
So an end user is the person who uses it "in the end." An odd term really.
