In Pleasantville what are the gender stereotypes?

Women are supposed to be stay-at-home moms and homemakers. Men are supposed to be the breadwinners.

Women do not initiate flirting and date-asking. Men ask the women if they would like their pin and to go steady and hold hands.

Women do not talk back, they accept their roles. Men make the rules and require their women to back them up.

I guess it's a dreary picture, but back then, nobody really challenged the gender roles. They just accepted them as life.

The movie ABOUNDS in stereotypes. Every action by the people before they learn color is a stereotype. From the way they dress to the things they do, to the way they interact.
