The chapter titles contrast the woman's life BEFORE the religious regime took control and afterwards. Look at the names of the chapters. They each mean something in the context of our present day, but they each mean something else in the context of Offred's world in Gilead.

This is a BRILLIANT book.

They also describe in a very mundane way the very mundane life of Offfred. Yes, it is a very brilliant book and worth the read more than once. Pax - C.
