i went to the cable company and bought cable and cable internet. they gave me a modem which as a Enet hook-up on it and also has a USB hook-up. the last time we had cable internet, the Enet hook-up worked. this time when i plug it in, it does nothing. therefore i have to use the USB hook-up. what could be wrong and what can i do about it?

also the light blink when i hook the Enet up. i have gotten the USB to work. but i am told Enet hook-up is faster and better.

network card could be bad, to use the usb u have to download the files needed, they should have given u a disk with some drivers on it for the modem, if you dont have that disk call the cable company and ask them how you can get the drivers for the modem...

Contact the cable company. They will be able to walk you through the set up process (different for every provider). It may also be a bad port on the modem itself. They will be able to check that. There should be no charge for them to get it working for you.

When you connect it to the ethernet port, do the lights blink?

Can you connect the computer to another ethernet jack or connect something else to the cable modem to determine where the problem exists?
