.even hunting. i don’t think there is reason to carry any type of gun, un less you are working with the law, its too easy to get a gun today. i know about the background checks, but its possible for someone to go insane, think of all the deaths that would be prevented. i know that ( for safety reasons ) some people carry them, but there are waaaay more people using them to kill people in fights and all. please give your opinion.

if you follow the law, and have threats, then yes, i agree with you owning a gun. but i dont think we should just hand them out.

An unarmed society is a compliant society...Letting the gov't be more powerful than the people is the first step to dictatorship.

Do you have death threats against you? Were your grandparents murdered? Have you had people threaten to break into your house? Do you know anyone who has committed a murder? Do you know any friends that were murdered? Will you be able to hold off an armed attacker long enough for the police to arrive, IF you can contact the police? (Not everyone owns a cell phone.)

My grandparents were murdered, a friend of mine was murdered, someone I know became a murderer, I have had death threats against me and my wife by a mentally ill person (who threatened to cut me up and mail me to my relatives), and my wife WANTS me to be armed. I don't love guns, but if someone threatens my life or her life I would not hesitate to use whatever force I deem necessary to stop them. By the time the police got here, we would probably both be dead if we didn't protect ourselves. Not everyone should be allowed to own a firearm, but the chance that someone will go insane is extremely small, and there is no way to predict who will and who won't. Owning a gun is a huge responsibility - if you do, get safety training, and never ever lose your cool.

So basically you are asking for gun control. Gun control doesnt work. It will only disarm law abiding citizens and their right to protect themselves. Criminals will still their hands on firearms........ILLEGALY! And what good is it going to do if only police have guns. The response time to the shootings at Tech were ridicoulous. Disarming the law abiding will be like fish in a barrel. Think of all the deaths that are prevented by a citizen carrying. By banning guns, all the criminals will know how defenseless we are. If a criminal even suspects his target is armed, he will think twice about trying something stupid. And its really sad that the Brady Bunch is smiling now, because they know that they have something working in their favor now. I find it ironic that a group like them, are for preventing gun violence, yet they love it when there is a mass shooting. They even say we need more school shootings to gain ground on banning guns. How sad is that?

I totally agree with you. The only ones that should be in possession of firearms are the military and law enforcement. In this day and age there's no need for people to go out hunting. Why some people feel the need to go out and KILL some poor animal is beyond me. I don't understand that type of mentality. Anyway, I say there's no need for the public to have firearms. It would be a lot safer world if guns were taken away from the public.

One of the fundamental Rights of all US citizens is the "Right To Bear Arms". Take away that right, you might as well throw all of our Rights in the garbage.
If you do not want to own a gun, it is your right to not do so, nobody is forcing you to buy one.

Taking away the right for US citizens to protect their lives and their property is against everything this nation stands for.
Disarming law abiding citizens will only leave the criminals armed, and the rest of us at their mercy.
Anarchy and chaos.

I don't want to die, when some armed criminal points a gun at me. I want the means to shoot back,

Has it occured to you that if anyone other than the shooter at VA Tech, had been armed, they might have shot him before he killed another 30 people?
I would have.

Be sure and ban machetes and garden implements also and what about vehicles which kill more people than anything else. I am glad your opinion is the minority it shows at least not all people are blinded by not having any common sense.
Suicides typically make up 56.5% of all gun deaths according to the Bureau Of Justice Statistics. In fact, drugs and suicides account for more than 2 out of every 3 gun deaths in the USA

According to a preliminary report from the Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 43,200 died on the nation’s highways in 2005, up from 42,636 in 2004. Injuries dropped from 2.79 million in 2004 to 2.68 million in 2005, a decline of 4.1 percent

In the course of a hundred days in 1994 the Hutu government of Rwanda and its extremist allies very nearly succeeded in exterminating the country's Tutsi minority.

Using firearms, machetes, and a variety of garden implements, Hutu militiamen, soldiers, and ordinary citizens murdered some 800,000 Tutsi and politically moderate Hutu. It was the fastest, most efficient killing spree of the twentieth century.

Gun Control Law Helped Campus Killer
Yet disarmament lobby and establishment media exploit tragedy to disarm more potential victims

In January 2002, a student at the Virginia Appalachian School of Law, Peter Odighizuwa, shot three people dead before other students were able to retrieve guns from their cars and put an end to the carnage before there was more bloodshed. Over thirty victims at VA Tech yesterday were denied that right as a result of a campus gun control law that helped the shooter pick off his targets at will.

A bill in the Virginia legislature last year that would have allowed students with concealed weapons permits to carry their guns at schools was killed, with VA Tech spokesman Larry Hincker heralding the move as action that would "help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus." How hollow those words sound now in light of eyewitness reports of how victims had to cower under desks as the killer calmly approached, their only means of defense throwing chairs or risking their lives by escaping out of high-rise windows.

"Isn't it interesting that Utah and Oregon are the only two states that allows faculty to carry guns on campus. And isn't it interesting that you haven't read about any school or university shootings in Utah or Oregon? Why not? Because criminals don't like having their victims shoot back at them," Gun Owners of America's Larry Pratt said yesterday. "That's why the American people want an end to this ineffective gun ban."

85% of Americans support the right of a principle or a teacher to have instant access to a safely stored firearm in order to defend the lives of students and prevent a school massacre, but a drive is already underway to disarm more victims and grease the skids for more horrors similar to what unfolded yesterday.

The talking points have already been disseminated and the disarmament lobby and the establishment media is doing it's best to exploit yesterday's tragedy to push for gun control.

I am sick and tired of all this "Guns are Bad" CRAP! I live 15 minutes from Blacksburg and Virginia Tech and I got my first gun when I was 10 years old. I was taught how to use them in a safe manner. Why should I be punished because criminals are illegally getting guns and committing crimes with them? Instead of letting murders go "OJ" why don't we start punishing those who deserve it instead of taking away the rights of law abiding citizens?

Won't work, as those who want guns for ill intents will still get them, most guns that are used in planned criminal activity are not gotten through legitimate means anyhow.

The only people you are hurting and taking away rights from are those who play by the rules.

I actually think the police have too many guns and the people don't have enough but there will always be those who want others to protect them instead of doing it themselves.
I don't see why you would think that someone joining the police will magically make them special.
