the usb drive is used mainly for storing files and for ease of transfer between computers. You usually plug it into the usb port and the system will automatically detect it and display it as a drive. The drive doesnt directly repair your computer, but you can store diagnostic software or files e.g. Norton Antivirus, Norton Utilities etc., that could check your computer for hardware or software problems

A USB plug/drive/port is used for plug&play devices which don't require a specialized plug like those with different numbers of pins.

Theoretically, we should be able to plug and unplug a printer, mouse, keyboard, camera, etc. into the same port. However, it doesn't seem to always work that way - at least not for me. I have found that unless I use the "safely remove hardware" process before removing the device, it will not recognize the next one. No big deal.
