I have the bulky one, NEVER had a problem.

Heard the slimline ones are unreliable, but don't know anyone with one.

the slimline is the better unit, it has the network adapter built in already and is easy to find. I don't even know if you can get the older version anymore. I went through 3 of the "bulky" units in 2 years. I have had the slimline since it was released and never had a problem with it. I have played it for 12-14 hours straight without any heat problems.

THe slimline has an updated OS for the PS2 and is okay, however, it is MUCH MORE DELICATE. IF you bump it too hard, tip it over, close the lid too hard, or aren't very gentle with it, it will more than likely have issues. My cousins have had two slimlines, and both stopped working within weeks of purchase, Sony would not warranty them either.

I let them have my bulky one when I upgraded to the XBOX 360, they have had it for nine months after I had it for 5 years, and it still does not have an issue. Go bulky. Plus you could probably go to EB or Game Stop and get one refurbished or used for a lot less, and spend the money on more games.

Best of luck.

I have a ps2, the bulky one. I bought it three or four years ago used and have never had a problem with it. My friend as the slimline one, and he has never had a problem with it. If you're worried about the slimline overheating, get the bulky one.

There are pros and cons to both systems. The bulky, old PS2 when watching DVDs they fast forward EXTREMELY slow...other than that, it's a okay. With the new PS2 Slim, the only downfall where the AC plug in goes. It's a small socket where you plug in the wire to turn on your PS2, if you're not care about sometimes, you can break that...and that's it for your Slim PS2. Other than those issues, both systems are comparable Also my PS2 Slim, I leave it on all day/night...hasn't overheated, owned for about 2 or 3 years.

slimline. I have never had a problem with overheating. And it comes with the network adapter installed already. Not to mention it is just smaller and takes up less space.

performance wise there is not a lot of difference between the two machines-just appearance. but i never rated the slimmer ps2 there always seemed to be problems with the machine (usually in the psu) and as the above poster says there have been reported cases of overheating-having said this if you get a good one then it would be a worthwhile investment. but personally i would rather have the bigger one-more reliable. i have had mine for four years and it has far outlasted the slimmer model owned by freinds of mine. i now own a ps3 but there is no way i will get rid of my beloved ps2 i have never had a days problem with it.

it was only the battery pack which overheated but those were sent back for replacement, theres no difference in the machines themselves apart from the obvious size..
