It is very important that you have this done. If they are doing a colposcopy then they think you are high risk for cervical cancer and need a biopsy to be sure. Don't worry though most times it turns out fine. They have to know because of a woman is pregnant and has cervical cancer she most likeley won't be able to carry the baby. I'm not trying to scare you I just want to know the facts. When the do the colposcopy they cut off a tiny piece of your cervix to examine it for changes in cells that lead to cancer. It won't cause you to miscarry. Your doctor will and is required to explain all the risks and alternatives before performing the procedure. If you don't fully understand what is going on then ask ask ask...until you do. It is your decision not the docs so if you feel he isn't providing the informatio you need then get a second opinion. Yes it does hurt, but it's more like an uncomfortable burning sensation with ppressure and it only lasts a few seconds with the some cramping slight bleeding so don't worry if bleed a little afterwards unless it is real heavy and bright red.

I had a colposcopy about 3 years ago...followed by a LEEP, followed by a cone biopsy, and I remember that the colposcopy was not half as bad as I thought it would be. You'll be fine; don't take the valium--you won't need it. You'll just need to dose up on some Tylenol afterwards and take the rest of the day to rest. Don't put it off anymore! If there's anything wrong (let's hope that's not the case!), it's better to deal with it systematically and head-on to make sure that you stay healthy. Good luck! I promise you that nothing will be as bad as the fear of the unknown.

Does your doctor know you are pregnant and that you had previous miscarriages? If he does and he still feels that you shouldn't put the colonoscopy off then I would probably go ahead and do it. You really need to talk about the pros and cons. It is your decision and you don't have to have it done. I would ask him why he feels you can't wait and what would be the risks of waiting versus the risk of doing it now. You might want to get a second opinion too. It is your body and your baby. The doctor can recommend what he thinks you should do, and he does have the education to make those recommendations, but in the end it is your decision and he can't do anything without your consent.

well I have had two colposcopy with biopsies done...and yes they hurt...in fact I switched doctors and was told that this procedure can lead to miscarriage, infertility, and heightened sensitivity to pain on the cervix....luckily I have had 2 children and am pregnant with my third, but not so for some women.....

if they are just doing the colposcopy that doesnt hurt only the biopsies do....with the colposcopy they just use a camera that that displays your cervix on a screen and the doctor dabs the cervix with vineager to see if any cells turn white...if they do they are abnormal and need to be removed..I dont believe they can do biopsies during pregnant

If they do want to do a biopsy........First off they dont numb the area and they tell you the cervix has no nerve endings...thats a load of BS...I walked out of there trembling and almost going into shock...I was white and incoherant...during the procedure I had only the nurse to comfort me as the doctor said this is a sharp instrument and if you dont hold still I can severly hurt you....I was trembling and each time she took a biopsy it was hard to hold still...in all she took 7 biopsies my first one and 10 my second...it was horrible for me...although I have heard some women say that it isnt a big deal...so I would judge off of your pain tolerance..personally I dont know how they feel that way about it...I prefer child birth!

My doctor now is called a naturopathic doctor...his name is Frank Strehl and he has helped me avoid those nasty procedures since 2002....he uses a treatment called Escarotic (thts not spelled right) treatment and it gets rid of the abnormal cells without very much discomfort at all...I dont know what he recommends for pregnancy but if you were to call him maybe he could recommend you a treatment...he doesnt do pregnancy but there are ways to avoid putting your baby at risk

heres his web site : http://www.drstrehloncall.com/index.html

and phone #) Phone: (630) 653-5755

good luck and God Bless!!!

I had to have this done when I was as far aslong as you are. I am now almost 20 weeks pregnant. It doesn't hurt, you feel a pinch but it's not bad. You will bleed for a day or so and they will put this brown gel stuff to stop the bleeding and a couple of days later when you go to the bathroom, you will see that brown gel stuff, it will look like a clot. Don't be scared. It's normal. This is safe for the baby. You will be fine. Good luck and congrats!!

A colposcopy is a way to view your cervix better than a pap smear. The doctor takes vinegar and dabs it on the cervix with a cotton ball or swab. It will turn cells white so the doctor can see what is going on. Its a little uncomfortable and the vinegar may sting a little and feel a little cold. Its important to get this done. They cant scrape any tissue bc you are pregnant. If every thing goes ok you should get tested again after you have your baby.

As a matter of fact I just got one done today!! I have Hpv so I get it done once every 3 months and once every 3 months I still go in the doctor's office TERRIFIED!! lol But....when its all over I say to myself "It wasn't that bad" All they do is put a vinegar solution on your cervix and any abnormal cells will turn white...Now the Biopsy, which is when they cut a sample of the abnormal part is the most uncomfortable part of the whole procedure and as soon as its done you will get serious cramps as if your period is on only for about 5 minutes though....As days pass the iodine they put on it starts to leak out and it kinda looks like diarrhea from the front!! Eww...but Good Luck!!! You should be fine!! And so should your baby being that its the outside of the cervix!!

I'm sure if you doctor is aware that you are pregnant and is still suggesting you have one done, you will be fine! If you are still uncomfortable with the idea you should talk to your OBGYN about the situation. The doctors will coordinate what needs to be done for both your safety and your babies safety if you show your concern.

Colonoscopy's are not comfortable. The worst part is the night before. The actual procedure goes pretty quickly.

I have to have this done as well because of abnormal cells on my cervix. Its almost like a douche. My doctor said he will only do this during my pregnancy if it really needs to be done. I'm only going into my 5th month now. My doctor said it will not be harmful. Now if you need further treatment they may scrap cells off your cervix.I dont think they would do it during pregnancy unless its necessary but just in case, get a second opinion if you can. My sister had this done and said it did hurt somewhat but it wasnt terrible pain....just said it felt like someone was scratching her up there.

It doesn't hurt honest. I had one when I was 6 months pregnant. They didn't take samples or anything. Just looked at my cervix. One thing I need to tell you is, don't let them biopsy anything. Do that after you give birth. :)
Good luck.
