The American College of Obstetritian and Gynecologists says that women with low risk pregnancies should NOT get a routine ultrasound. Ultrasounds should be reserved for specific medical reasons in which case the benefits exceed the risks.
Even if you do not admit that ultrasounds in and of themselves have risks. In low risk pregnancies the use of ultrasounds leads to more unnecessary procedures due to questionable results than actual problems found by ultrasound. Many studies have shown routine use of ultrasound statistically worsens pregnancy outcomes. One example is being diagnosed as having a large baby (macrosomia). The mere diagnosis causes worse outcomes -increased use of pitocin, forcepts, c-sections regardless of baby size. In fact undiagnosed macrosomic babies generally fair better than diagnosed because the doctors do not rush into a diagnosis of "Failure to progress" during labour.
Back with some sources in a few.

There have been some studies that show that doing a lot of ultrasounds has a negative effect on mouse fetuses. It doesn't neccessarily mean that ultrasounds are harmful for human fetuses, but my reaction would be to avoid unneccesary ultrasounds. I wouldn't get the 3-d/4-d, because those are unneccesary and very long, so a lot of exposure to ultrasound rays for the baby, but if your Dr. wants you to have one ultrasound to make sure everything's ok, it shouldn't be a problem.
Do some research on it, and if you are really worried about it this pregnancy, there's no reason why you have to get an ultrasound if you are having a healthy pregnancy. You can always decline any test the Dr. wants to do, including ultrasound. YOU are in charge of your health and the baby's health, and in the end, YOU call the shots. If you do your research and decide that ultrasounds might cause harm, tell your Dr. that you won't be having one.

No, that's a bunch of bull. Vaccinations are more of a risk (cause) of autism then any amount of ultrasounds. I love how they try and say something as simple as an ultrasound would cause autism, yet give a child 35 different vaccinations by the time they are 2 years old....it's sick.

I have never heard this. I had ultrasounds with both of my kids and they are both perfectly healthy. If you are concerned then you should discuss the pros and cons of having one with your doctor and then decide. I wasn't aware that there were any risks though.

No, ultrasounds are perfectly safe.
The truth is that nobody knows exactly what causes autism, so there are a lot of theories going on out there.

There is no proof to that link. People contribute autism to genetics, to mercury, to tv, to non-stick coating on pans..
The truth is they DON'T know yet.
