You can't stop them. And it is pointless to blame the school or president of the school for what one individual did. It is the perps fault only.

First, I think the guy SNAPPED long before the shooting rampage. He had this whole thing well thought out and planned. The issue isn't that he could have been stopped before the shootings at the dorm, the issue is that the second incident started 2 hours later and still students and staff had no idea what was happening. The warnings started 11 minutes after the second series of shootings started and over 2 hours after the first.
He had 2 hand guns, and had locked all the doors leading from the building. This wasn't something he woke up yesterday morning and decided to do. This is something that had been meticulously planned.

There is really very little that can be done to stop the determined perpetrator as can be seen from the efforts not only in our country but examining the deterrents of our military in Iraq and Afghanistan. We put locks on things in various situations to thwart half-hearted attempts as well as amateurs to burglarize our possessions but the determined thief will find some method to override these defenses. One of the prices to pay for a true democracy is to give everyone the benefit innocence until proven guilty therefore until the crime has been committed a "preemptive" action taken against a "likely candidate" can be very controversial.

It is important to identify the issues before that person reaches the critical point. As people reflect, they will figure out that there were plenty of warning signs available for this tragedy. People should be more alert and less afraid to intervene with someone when that person is on a downward spiral. We have to stop thinking the person will automatically rebound or that someone else will step in to help.

sounds like just a reaction of hurting parents. It's always someone elses fault, let's sue someone, let's fire someone. Stupid Stupid Stupid. You are right, if someone wants to do harm they will do it. If you put 100 security guards on campus at all times they would be rioting and protesting the police presence and the parents would be screaming about the high of cost of paying for that security. You can't win.

Ask any police officer that was involved in New York during the republican convention when they stopped protesters and created "free speech zones" a mile away from where anybody could hear them expressing their free speech.

A: you can't, unless you happen to be armed, and have the reflexes, coordination, and presence of mind to accomplish the task - which most people do not.
The plain, unvarnished truth is, $hit happens. I don't care what you do. There is no absolute safety or security.
Israelis live with this fact daily. Can we?

Two to center of mass, one to the head, usually works.
Banning weapons is an infringement of my rights. For those who want to ban weapons, where do the infringements stop? Should we not allow you to speak publicly against the government? Perhaps my second amendment right is the one that allows you to keep your first, think about it.

Proactive police actions in this case, they sure had enough police to send in after the fact.
