He's 9 and playing little league and wants a pair of gloves for this season. I know they make a difference and I'm just not sure if he needs a glove for each hand or just the right hand.

Actually, if he was to have just 1 glove it would be for the left hand. This is the glove hand and the bottom hand on the bat. However most people use 2 gloves so buy him 2 gloves and see what he feels most comfortable doing.

That Depends on your little brother. Some people like hitting with 2 gloves on, some like hitting with just a glove on their pull hand, which would be the left hand for a rightie and right hand for a lefty... and then some people dont like the feel of gloves at all... so get him a pair of gloves and make him take a couple swings with both on and see if he feels ok or not, and go from there.

If he's right-handed, you'd actually want to buy him a glove for his left hand, for two reasons: 1) that's the hand his catching glove is on, and wearing a batting glove underneath your catching glove will make the catching glove last longer and not go rancid as quickly due to sweat; and 2) when he's batting, the left hand will be near the nub of the bat, and he'll have more chance of bruising that hand from the swinging motion than he will his top hand.

Either buy him gloves for both hands or just for his left.

It is really just a matter of what feels best for him. There is no set guideline for how many gloves to wear. If he is comfortable with one and can hold the bat well with one then that will do, but if he needs the added grip or just feels more comfortable with two then there is no harm there either.
