Okay, here goes: "Zoey woke up one morning & discovered to his horror that he was suffering from a bad case of writer's block. He stumbled over to his PC and decided to ask for help...from somebody...anybody...he didn't really care. He just needed an answer. Somebody out there had to know THE ANSWER. So he typed out his question in Yahoo Answers, and within a few minutes, the answers came in, one by one. All the messages yelled at him: "Zoey, you ain't a writer if you can't even think of an original idea for your own novel!" It made him feel worse and worse.
He thought, "I'm really a hopeless case. Look, there's even somebody in here telling me to quit writing & move on to the fast food industry. What in the world is wrong with me?"
Then along came the answer he had been waiting for. The message read simply: "Okay, here goes. Heh, heh, just kidding, Zoey. I thought this might cheer you up, after reading all the other depressing messages!

Best Wishes,
A Fellow Writer.

Excuse me?? You want someone to GIVE you ideas for your NEXT novel?? Who gave you the idea for the first one? I would be happy to, but first you would have to talk with my agent and attorney about financial arrangements. You see, my ideas are my intellectual property and I write books and get paid for my ideas. So tell me, while Im giving you a book idea, is there anything else I can do for you? Maybe give you a kidney? Buy you a new Porsche? Give you my first born child (well you can actually have him).

Hon, if you have to ask for ideas about what to write about, you arent an author, you are a hack. Can you imagine Hemingway coming here and saying "Tell me an idea to write about?" Faulkner? Vonnegut? Koontz? Jeeze even James Patterson manages to come up with four or five ideas for novels each year. So what's YOUR excuse?

Actually I will give you a great idea. It's called the novel about Nothing. You can write about a guy who sits around on his tail all day long watching old Seinfeld ideas in search of his next book idea.

Give me a break hon - go back to reading comic books and stop trying to get people to give you their intellectual property for free. Why do we get 15 or 20 hacks like you a day here seeking ideas for novels? No wonder agents burn out at an early age. They have to put up with people like YOU.

Just being painfully honest here. Not a Yahoo violation here. Rethink your career options - there are always openings in the fast food industry. Pax - C.

Your next novel??? Come on, do you think we are that stupid? If, in fact, you've written one, you should have no trouble coming up the a plot and characters for another.

If you haven't actually written a novel, which I suspect is accurate, you could read books on writing. This one might be right up your alley: Steal This Plot, A Writer's Guide to Story Structure and Plagiarism by June and William Noble.

being a fellow writer myself, i know how difficult it can be to find inspiration. I like to lie in bed at night and think over the events of the day, and sometimes a thought or a word that someone said sparks my imagination and BOOM!. i seem to always get my inspiration when im in a semi-conscious state, when im right on the line between waking and sleeping, thats the best place, you imagination really comes alive then. i always keep a notebook and a pen by my bed, in case i wake in the middle of the night with an idea. i suggest taking a long walk, preferably somewhere quiet, and taking it all in. who knows, maybe it will just hit you.

If you have to ask for ideas then you're no writer or author for that matter.
