after what happened yesterday with the shootings at schools, i was talking to some people and they were saying it was never this bad as long as they were alive and violence has gotten worse and there were no school shootings before the 90-s. Why has the world become more violent? Has it?

There is true good and true evil in the world and I belive with the media able to transmit at a moments notice everything it is so much easier to see. Unfortunately evil makes better copy and draws more viewers. This was a horrible tragidy that does make one question. Has the world become more violent? Just look back at the way people were tortured over the centuries, our society may have changed but human nature remains the same, caught between good and evil.

Unfortunately, schools are not built for security. If you lock everyone up inside, you're locking in a school shooter. If you lock everyone out, you're locking out help. If you leave everything unlocked, you're inviting intruders. With strict confidentiality rules, you're putting violent and mentally ill students in with all the others, and no one knows they're there; or if you do know they're there, you can be fired for talking about it. Many old schools are built with banks of windows to the outside. Many new schools have no windows and few doors, so escape is difficult. Believe it or not, there are still thousands of classrooms without telephones in them. You can't totally fence in a school because there are so many people who must come and go all day long. Gun laws are not consistent in all states. Conservative politicians and the NRA are dead set against further controls that would lead to consistent laws in all states. I was a teacher for 30 years. I thought about this a lot. I have no idea how it will ever be stopped. Sad.

Of course it has, even though I am young and have only been out of highschool for 4 years now, for most of my years in school I knew what it was like to feel safe there and think no one could harm me, now we can't even guarantee that as a safe place for children. Its horrible, it makes me not want to bring children into this screwed up world. I just am so heartbroken for these families... it is so sad.

If you go back far enough, the buffoon who did this was probably on some type of drug (the Columbine idiots were on ritalin). He was also a Chinese national. It's why GWB stuttered and mumbled about being sorry for the families, yet said nothing about tightening border security. They probably knew he was a foreign national, and hid the fact for as long as they could.

It is more violent today, and liberalism is to blame for castrating law enforcement. Why would Virginia Tech ban guns on campus? Answer: liberalism.

Read a freaking history book. Evil and violence have always been with us. Massacres, witch hunts, crusades, inquisitions, wars, exploitation, even *really* bad stuff like guys kissing each other and contraception.

EVIL IS A RELEVANT TERM!!!!!!

There is more violence because we are needing to change constantly and the beurocratic oath prevents our natural evolution as the human race strives onward to new, different extremes!!!!

THE END IS NEAR!!!

horsemen are drawing nearer!
Time taking its toll on you , the lines that crack your face!
Famine your body it has torn through withered in ever place!
Pestilence for what you have had to endure , for what you have put others through!
Death , deliverance of you for sure , now theres nothing you can do....

More people, struggling for fewer resources.

The Chinese had the right idea, limiting the number of children couples could have.

yes my friend, and we are indeed living in a golden age of violence. Perhaps someday we will create enough violence to perpetuate tolerable levels of population, let us just hope that this massacre was a beautiful sign of good times ahead.
