He challenged me to a Duel (one on one with Frog) and i challenged him and beat him.
Is there any possible way that I can still get him as a character?

well if you were to do new game + and get back to that part but don't fight him then you should be able to play but otherwise I don't think you'll be able to.
if this is your first time around he has some of my favorte spells but otherwise you should b able to finish without him, theres really only one sidequest that hes needed in I think and going through a second time is fast and the third time is super fast

To acquire Magus, you needed to DECLINE that challenge, not accept it.
If you've already saved, you can no longer acquire him in this playthrough, though you can still get him should you do a New Game+ with that save file.

No, not this playthough. You can try in the New Game+ file, or go back your previous save, if you have one.
