I was going ask why do men/women always leave the toilet seat up/down, but to avoid arguments I will ask this;

IF YOU WENT TO A PREDOMINANTLY MALE/FEMALE HOUSE AND USED THE TOILET, WOULD YOU PUT THE TOILET SEAT BACK UP/DOWN???

to avoid confusion question is being asked as we have had the builders in for two days and being that there is only females in the house the toilet seat is always left down and the builders have left it up!!! And it made me giggle cos my sister always complains that the boys in her house leave the toilet seat up!!!

I was also told years ago to always put the lid down as feng shui (not that I practice that) dictates that it keeps bad spirits out (please correct me if I am wrong on this as it was a very very long time ago I was told)

At first I was pleased to see this question phrased as it was, because it's usually the case that most people - alright, most *women* - seem to believe that down is somehow the natural position for the seat. Sez who?

But on looking at the answers, it's clear that nothing's changed: it seems that the majority still believe that God's Eleventh Commandment is 'Thou shalt not leave the seat up'.

Well - 1) this is a wasted effort for men, most of the time, 2) If women want it down, why not put it down? It takes no more work than putting it up; why should men always have to perform the task?

Finally, on the silly matter of hygiene: if it really troubles you that evil nastiness will somehow escape from the toilet and kill you, there are some things you should note.

o Unless you're living with a cholera victim, there probably nothing very dangerous in the bowl to escape in the first place.
o Having the seat down has been found to INCREASE the spread of droplets blasted out by flushing. The narrow gap between the seat and bowl accelerates the air that shoots out, and makes any airborne particles travel further.

So there.

My house is predominantly female but I have a 5 yr old son who has been taught to put the lid down everytime ( his future wife will thank me for that). This is because every time you flush the loo, whatever waste is inside the toilet at the time, tiny particles are forced up into the air and land anywhere in the immediate area! A sink is usually near the loo, and so are soaps, toothbrushes etc. The thought of faeces on our toothbrushes is not good. I always know if my partner has been to the toilet as the seat is always up, so I thought I'd explain to him why I'd prefer him to put it down and although he looked concerned at the time it only lasted til the next visit to the loo! Some things you can't change huh? I also hate it because not being disrespectful but males are not always successful with their aim and I hate having to touch the toilet when they've missed and got it around the loo seat area and I have to put the lid down! Sorry guys, nothing personal!

I always close it completely when finished. To me it's like leaving a cabinet door open or a drawer unclosed. It just doesn't look right.

Also I always flush twice when there is feng shui involved. While the lid isn't airtight, it does help to keep some of the spirits contained!

My children were trained to put the seat and lid down BEFORE flushing. Most toilets are in close proximity to the sink, where most people store their toothbrushes. Every flush releases tiny particles of toilet water being released into the air. Those water particles go all over the sink, walls and floor. It is a sanitary reason rather than one of convenience for boys and girls in the house.

Put it UP!! Unless you want it to get wet the next time some little boy goes to the bathroom...

If no little boys are around.. leave it DOWN! (and put some cellophane over it too!) JUST KIDDING!! *GriN*

Seriously, put it down and the lid too if you don't have animals that are trained to use the toilet and are not capable of opening the lid.. it will keep things from falling into the toilet.

Down in both instances. It looks better, and if someone needs to use the toilet in a hurry, there is a more than 50% chance they will be seated.

maximum women people take a seat to pee that i understand. in the experience that your spouse does, perchance you may have the respect to place the seat down and the coolest ...to avert odors from leaving the rest room area and getting into/penetrating the residing area frequently. could be consumer-friendly sense. you're probably a degreed guy or woman from an wealthy kinfolk or got here from a kinfolk/orphanage or different kinfolk concern that had a boys rest room that no-one had to be attentive to and or had your guy or woman bathing room growing to be up. many persons do no longer come from that so we found out/ have attention for others.....and know in our smaller areas that we would desire to shelter those areas with a sprint extra sensitivity. it is going to be observed that toddlers can fall right into a rest room and drown additionally...

My father always leaves the seat up and my mother falls in and gets furious. This has been going on for 50 years and she still hasn't learned to check. I have a husband and son who also leave the seat up. I learned very early on just to check before I sit and it is a non-issue for me. I think this on-going argument that so many people have is funny!! There are bigger problems in life---RIGHT????!!!

I always leave the toilet seat down, no matter where I am. I return the toilet lid to however I found it.

Face nature, if you have men in the house leave the toilet seat UP otherwise when you need the toilet you will have to sit in their piss.
