I go alone to Greece, this summer will be my 8th year, but while I stay a lot with my Greek friends am on my own a lot if want to and have never felt threatened. The people are helpful, very friendly if you ask for help most know some english especially the young ones. There is an area thats to be avoided but one from Athens can tell you the name of it..my greek spelling is horrible lol....I was cautioned about purse snatchers but never had anyone try that but as anywhere in any country that can happen.
I feel safer on the streets of Athens than I do in a lot of places in the states. Women can walk anywhere, the men may look you over but have never been approached or followed in a threatening manner.....Go and enjoy and love it as I do

Be sure, that the greek women are between the most beautiful in the world, and there will not be any problem for the americans, the greeks are not so hungry...
If they are aldies, and they dont provock, nothing is going to happen.However, try to avoid certain places in the late night like Omonia, and be sure, that our country is not so bad as many people think.Dont be upset my dear, it is not your fault, but i think lately there is a common opinion from people that Greece is not a safe country.
Visit it, and you ll see.Everywhere if you know how to behave is safe..Be sure..

Greece has about the lowest crime rate in the world, but that doesn't mean you should behave like idiot (getting totally pissed and falling a sleep on the highway, with your purse open next to you...).

absolutely
my mom has done this too,with a friend of hers, when she was round 20, and had a great time. she went sightseeing in crete.
she actually moved to greece and married a greek....a few years later.
she is dutch but does that make any difference?

the best thing would be to have a handsome strapping young man be your tourguide...i can volunteer my services if you like. LOL
in all seriousness, yes its safe, but like previous posters have said, that doesnt mean you can get stupid....no drinking till you pass out, no going home with strangers at 4am...etc. and everyone says to avoid omonoia square in central athens at night - me being from NYC i dont see how dangerous that place is, but i guess they have a point for most other people.

Greece has one of the lowest criminality rates in Europe.
On the other hand,I don't know what exactly you mean by safe... ;)
No kidding now,I think you'll be fine,except the fact that you can meet some quite friendly gyus.But I guess that you can handle that.

Yes, no problem, just avoid clubs late at night and drinking too much and flirting in wild parties and dressing too sexy. I mean try not to look like you want to get too friendly with guys. Other than that, crime is very low, and you'll enjoy yourselves. If I were you, I would choose more "family-style' islands, like Siphnos, Milos, Syros, instead of very touristic ones.

Umm... Greece is like you know... civilized - with laws and police and street lights and all ...
You will be pretty safe in all tourist locations and hotels etc. Just use your common sense and you will be very fine...
If you are anyone looking like anything you will probably not be very safe if you pass out drunk at the docks at 3am though :)

The fact you are attractive is positive, because you will see all male (and maybe female) being very helpful!

Trust me, the average greek woman is by far more beautiful than the average american. Apart from this, Greece is one of the safest countries in EU. Enjoy!
