I have files on server 2003 Enterprise and i want some kind of identification that the files have been accessed by user or not, I have tried auditing of files but it is not the true answer. I want the accessed files to be marked or any kind of identification which shows the user that the file has been checked.

I don't know of any way other than using the event log. Having as much info logged as possible and tracking a file that way. You should be able to choose which columns and enable the last access column in windows explorer NOT internet explorer and then track to the event log that way. That is all I can offer for a suggestion.
