Lets see, judging from the video clips and testimony, the police's inaction caused the deaths of an unknown amount of students.Correct me if I am wrong, but as a swat team member, you are SWORN to protect and serve the lives of civilians, even at the cost of your life.So judging from all the standing around debating what to do,these officers apparently were more worried about their own skins than charging the building and taking the shooter or shooters out by force. Now why would that be?You would think bullet proof vests, shields, and having guns themselves would give a man the courage to try and save as many people as he could.Imagine what the parents of the dead students would have done had they known and been there to try and save their child's lives. And it is a good bet, that even without the benefit of protection, they would have charged in and at least TRIED to stop the shooting and save as many as they could. As far as the school goes, sounds like they are more like the govt, trying to hide

Or; we could wait till all the facts are in and we can then make a rational decision not an "armchair quarterback" witchhunt.

Just a thought

The problem is...this isn't the civil war...we don't do heroic suicide charges anymore.

The officer had no idea where the shots were comming from and had no idea what weapons the man had.

To make a charge like that and say 3 or 4 Swat members died...we would be talking about blamming the commander for needlessly risking more lives.

Maybe you could say they didn't act quick enough but this was a tough situation....look up Va Tech's campus map on their website...that university is a nightmare tactically speaking...it is impossible to secure.

This shooter knew what he was doing....To do this much damage with 9mm pistols was an impressive feat...not that I like it....but I've trained on the 9mm in ROTC and the Army...it is a short range...low accuracy weapon...and you hit that many targets and reload as quickly as he did....this was a guy trained on this weapon and knew what to do.

SWAT team members take an oath but they must also follow orders. It is as irrational to blame them for the Va Tech tragedy as it is to blame our troops for the actions of the Republicans and Democrats running the country.

First and foremost, the shooter is responsible. I agree that not all of the facts are in, so we can't point additional fingers trying to blame John Smith over there who may or may not have responded as quick as someone might have wanted. If they had done anything differently, people would still criticize.

It sounded like it went down pretty quickly. It doesn't take much time to unload 2 9's. They just didn't have the time. Plus the shooter did kill himself once the police approached.

Number of people killed by SWAT team members : 0
Number of people killed by the university : 0
Number of people killed by the actual gunman : 32

Don't be a fool. Only one person caused the tragedy, and he died yesterday.

I agree with you--too many excuses while armed to the teeth and protected to the hilt.
