Good point, that man....and while we're on the subject, why is it that when a (usually half-dressed) young woman is being chased by an axe-weilding maniac, she always runs up to the attic (or any other room from which there is no escape....?)
Another thing....when someone's on the phone in a movie, and they get cut off, why do they keep pressing the cut-off button on the phone....? Hello, idiots....?! lol

well if the girl stayed inside or if they came fully equipped, then it would make the film poor. we need to imagine ourselves helpess and at any point we could be killed.
i seriously think you should change what genre you watch
if you watched a film where the girl went the right way and escaped, or the girl was fast and didnt do things like keep checkin something in the same place and giving us thought the killer might get her, would it be a good movie??
HELL NO! cos then the girl or whoever would get away, no scary jumping outs, no kills, no nothing
and if you dont like how the system works, quit complaining an watch something else

I agree with EMA - how annoying is it when the characters go outside to investigate the noise when the psycho out there waiting to kill them? It's a good thing I suppose, because because people that stupid should be wiped out of the gene pool.

people ask me why there is a golf club behind my door-- because they know i don't play golf!!!
and why i prefer to watch horror movies as i try to go to sleep is beyond me. i'm surprised i nod off at all sometimes.
the thing i liked about Aliens (and some of the others), they didn't have Weaver do stuff that is too stupid--they have OTHER people do it and then because of her compassion, she goes to save them--like the little girl did in the film.
but, as you suggested in your question, when you go, go loaded for bear! that elevator scene when Weaver is loading up her firepower to go and get the little girl is the way to go.
no matter how many times i see that scene, when that elevator door opens and she is standing there draped in her firepower--good lord!! i get chills everytime. i felt she could have taken on hell itself at that point (kudos to Weaver for pulling that off).

How about cars that amazingly fly through the air for no reason (i.e. there is supposed to be no ramps), especially after an explosion?
