I have mapped drives on my Windows XP that really slow down my startup. Some of the drives are on a VPN that I don't connect to until after startup. How can I keep these drives available but make it so Windows XP doesn't be stupid and take 10 minutes to boot looking for them?

Well, it seems you have selected to automatically login to the mapped drives, when Windows Boots.

You can solve this issue by first disconnecting those drives and then reconnecting them. When reconnecting, make sure, you uncheck the box, Reconnect at Logon.

This option is available when you right click My Computer and click on Map Network Drive.

Hopefully, this will solve your problem completely.
